Chess.com Quick Knockouts ratings

My question is based on the upcoming Quick Knockouts 1001-1200 tournament.

There seems to be numerous players over the 1200 limit and I'm just wondering why this is? Fair enough if someone has won a game or two since registering and is hovering at around 1250 or so, but some people in the tournament are in the 1500's and surely shouldn't be in this bracket?

Ratings rise and fall continuously. Players are not moved until the tournaments start.

The 1500s are there now because the default number of games played is five for basic members and zero for premium members. In the later rounds do not be surprised if you encounter players rated in the 1500s.

Oh so they'll be moved once the tournament begins?

I can restate that if you wish. Just before all the tournaments start, all players with ratings not within the stated range will be moved into the tournament where their rating is within the stated range.

I try not to have an issue with the rise in ratings by allowing anywhere from 25 to 50 points rise above the maximum rating for registration.

Does this mean someone (a premium member) with no online games can play?  If so, which group can/should they join?

Oh okay that's fine, that's exactly what I hoped would happen, thank you for clearing that up Smile

I don't understand why you are sending me a link.  This was my question:

Can someone with a premium membership but no history of onlines games play or not?

Yes go to the tournament and click on "Join Tournament" to register.

I did.  It would not let me join.  It said:

"Sorry, your average time per move is too high for this tournament! You must have an average time per move less than 3 hours to register."

I should have an "average time per move" of "undefined" since I haven't played any online games.  So it doesn't make much sense.

TadDude

I learned something today. Not zero games, zero rated games but at least one move.

This player http://www.chess.com/echess/profile/ScarletLawyer has made one move in an unrated game

http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=31639637

and has registered.

Pokervane

Ok I had to start a random game and then was able to register.

I think this is a bug/oversight.  The intention seems to be to allow premium members to join without any previous history.

What will happen if I have won 1 game and lost 1 game? Will I be promoted to the next round in Quick Knockouts?
