Try something special: The Orangutan Opening!
Every game in our tournament starts with 1.b4 — the bold Orangutan Opening.
Its proper name is the Sokolsky Opening, often also called the Polish Opening. (We focus on the Kucharkowski–Meybohm Gambit.)
The nickname “Orangutan Opening” goes back to Savielly Tartakower, who played 1.b4 in New York in 1924 after a visit to the zoo. (According to Tartakower, the b-pawn climbs up the board like a monkey climbs a tree.)
A typical and exciting line is 1.b4 e5 2.Bb2 Bxb4 3.Bxe5 Nf6 (Here we start): White gives the b-pawn for a moment and activates the bishop in the center. After 3...Nf6 4.c3, the black bishop is chased away; White develops in a classical way with Nf3, e3, Be2, and castles. Black traditionally chooses ...d5 or ...d6 and
...O-O — the position stays rich in plans for both sides.
I would be glad if you join!
The tournament starts, when it is full, but latest on 15.11.2025!
See you at the board!
BtW: Sadly, this tournamant has to be unrated according chess.com rules.
