Does chess.com encourage smurfing ?

You're in control of your own results. Just win all your games while playing really fast and you'll win most of your tournaments. Stop blaming others for your own inadequacy. I don't like the fact that people try to manipulate the pairing system in this way, but don't fret over it: just enjoy your games.

These ratings are not just to make you look more badass but for an accurate pairing. Wanna play CS and check afterwards how much fun did u have ?

I don't know what CS is. Sorry. But playing strong opponentsthan is both educational and exciting.

In arenas they get paired against players around the same rating I think so a person has a 50% chance of winning a game

I think

Nah, your first game is against an opponent of similar ranking. Afterwards, it's catch as catch can. Whomever is idle is your opponent.

One arena gambit for a stronger player is to purposely lose your first game, then you will more likely be paired with a weaker opponent for your next round. At that point, you just hope to get paired with weaker opponents, which is more likely to happen since the ratio is in your favor as a stronger player.

Are lower rated people not allowed to win in tournaments, or else it's smurfing/sandbagging?

Then why is there a rating system in first place ? You see someone rated 900 not that I'm so much more rated but I'm around 1500. Why am I supposed to expect that 900 rated person to be stronger so I have to concentrate more ?
You can check this video of Kasparov who also thinks the same, it's just a dishonest trick -

I agree it is not completely fair since games between 2000+ players will take a lot more time than games between 1000+ players. as your screenshot shows 1000+ players can simply play more games in the same amount time and it's easier for them to finish higher in the not-swiss tournaments.

those tournaments are fun but, I prefer to play swiss tournaments since they are more fair in my opinion :)

and they r usually alt acc so speedrun 4 them

I'm new here and haven't played any tournaments.  But unless there is something like cash rewards then so what?  And are you saying they purposefully lost many games to get a non-provisional rating?  And after one tournament shouldn't their rating now be high?  I'm just confused as to why sandbag.  what do you really gain?

It's purely psychological reward. I guess it's a way to feel strong and satisfied.
