Don't think about the age difference! Just play and enjoy. Good luck!

some 13 year olds are strong, some 11 year olds are strong, most are not.

Have fun and think, with good mental discipline you have a good chance against almost any 13 year old.

Charlie, when you are facing older and more experienced players, it is important to play your openings solidly.  When I started studying chess in earnest, about your age or a bit older, I bought a booking on endgames.

Play the board, not the player.

Yeah age matters little there is a seven or eight year old I forget but he is a 1900 soo 13 year olds would lose to him

I'm 13 and beat some 20 year old. If you keep practicing, you should be fine.(assuming you try your best)

im 13 and i beat a 34 year old

Age doesn't matter. I am 12 years old and I beat players of all ages, OTB and online. The oldest person I beat was probably 75 or something. Don't worry about age, it's the skill that matters. That's what ratings are for, to measure how strong a player is. Just worry about ratings instead. Ratings are an indicator of how skilled a player is.

+1

Play the player when you are more experienced. Like in 5-10 years or so.

And even then still play the board 99 % of the time.

Play the board, not the opponent.

In my early 40s I lost to some 12 year old wunderkind of chess at the US Open. So age differences aren't much to worry about.

Act taller.

A little attitude and confidence goes a long ways.Laughing

(SORRY IF I REPLIED TOO LATE:/) Don't try scholar's mate.
That being said, if they try the scholar mate ON YOU, pay close attention to use the optimal defenses, and you should be winning thereafter!

When I was 8, I could easily beat my 22 year old after-school chess teacher. Now, at 19, I can lose to kids half my age on this site.

Age means nothing in chess. Just play your best and you'll be fine.

Tip: versing is not a verb form of versus. Those 13 year olds will make fun of you and possibly beat you up if you say something that foolish.

Jesus christ, settle down mate. I go to school still, and I can almost guarentee the only ones that could potentially get beaten up would be the person who's correcting such an easy mistake.
