One Change to Save Thousands of Members Months of Time

@artfizz While that is true, I think it's the least compelling argument around keeping the status quo. The other thing that can be relevant to the next round is the question of seeding. Obviously ratings can change because of continued games in the current round, and also ratings can change because time is passing. But in a perfect world, the next round would start as soon as all entrants are determined.

One question is that of re-seeding per round. For example, in an elimination tournament very often you'll know the exact path that you can take between round 1 and the final round. Tennis, baseball, American football, basketball, they all follow this format. For some reason the NHL playoffs do not. They re-seed each round. This is closer to how chess.com does it. They could implement something closer to a true knockout system. But I don't think it is worth the effort.

Yes! Or just a time limit for each round... 3days per move/a round must be completed in 45 days?

Just another guy who defines a troll as anyone who disagrees with him.

No, vacation abuse is vacation abuse.  Detection is in the eye of the beholder.

There's always a plausible (even if improbable) explanation, but there's no question that it happens, and often enough that it's a significant problem.

we're still working on the right algorithm for this. it's not simple...

i played in a tourney recently that had a day per move....that is the solution...the people making the tourneys should make it a day to a move...or lose.

when atomicaugust-- 30 moves for every period of 1 month---i have to agree---i sent a message to a guy i am playing in a tournament telling him guys like him shouldnt be in tournaments and that they slowed them down to where it isnt even fun for the people that do advance...we have been playing over 2 months and had 27 moves and 29 moves in our games at the point i wrote him...that is less than a move for every 2 days...bull crap.

because these tourneys are all doing that...having some people hold it up....i entered tourneys without looking at the time per move....now i will....if it says 2 days or more per move...well....i wont join it....i sure wish i hadnt joined the ones i am in....because of this problem.....that should have already been fixed.

A perfect example of what I said before-- the problem is people with poor reading comprehension skills (can't figure out what 3 days per move means) signing up for the wrong tournaments and then wanting the tournament and other players to change to suit them.

Avatar of ozzie_c_cobblepot

Let's face it. Some move-in-3-day games take 2 days to complete the whole game. Some take weeks. Some take months. Some could even take over a year.

Meh.

The trick is to be winning in all of your games; that way you can never be accused of vacation abuse.

Wait, no - if you're winning then you'll be called a ch***er.

Be drawing in all of your games - that way the worst thing people can call you is Grischuk.

But Sam if they are playing and moving legal what is the problem?  Be patient, burn somthing and listen to Ironman.

Simple solution. Enter a bunch of tournaments. You'll be so busy making all your moves that you won't have time to check all their status. And when you finally get a trophy, you'll have already forgotten about the tourney, so it'll be a pleasant surprise.

i will burn some...but listen to dr hook instead...lol....i asked the guy i am playing in the team match for draws...he gave me one...but never made it back to the other game. lmao....so that game still has just two moves so far...i am not patient and still have the draw pending....i dont want to play a wek long game...much less over two months and still only 27 moves in with just 8 pieces off the board....i just aint in jc....appreciate it though. i have offered draws with other slow players knowing i am losing points on my rating. it matters that little to me.

Offering a draw is rewarding the behavior. Why would you do that?

He's already addressed your question.

Avatar of ozzie_c_cobblepot

Honestly I wonder why the opponent accepted the draw. If it was so bothersome, the taking of time, then it's quite reasonable that the opponent would just resign to make the game go away.
