Sounsd like what happened to the tournament is that the number of participants dropped below the minimum threshhold so the whole tournament was cancelled: it happens because people drop out of a tournament as soon as they lose more games than they expect and can't be bothered playing out the remaining games. It's a reasonable policy - if the players have gone, you can't force them to play the remaining games, and if you don't have enough to proceed with the remaining rounds, then there's not much point, really, is there?

Other people can't make your screen lock, and especially can't make it lock when you're in a supposedly winning position on this web site. It's much more likely to be either some other virus that you've picked up that is affecting all of your PC operations, or connectivity problems that look like you're hanging, when what's really happening is you're waiting on the server connection.

In neither case are there any chess.com "policies" involved, nor are they "unfair". So don't expect chess.com to be able to "help" you with either of things in the forseeable future.

The only way I can see that happen is if you dropped out of the tournament yourself: I doubt if you clicked on the "withdraw" button deliberately, but it would be consistent with losing connection to the chess.com servers - that would also dump you out of the tournament. How many games did you actually win? A fully subscribed tournament normally goes for 9 rounds, although sometimes it can be less if you've got fewer people participating.

"Cheaters" cannot alter the time clock that way - all that would happen is that the chess.com server would time THEM out. The most likely explanation is that it is YOU that is timing out i.e. that you are having intermittent internet connectivity problems. That is the explanation that best fits the facts you are presenting.

Hope this may help..

1. Set and save a system restore point.

2. Download and instal MS security essentials.

3. Download and instal CC cleaner.

4. Restart pc.

5. Run CC cleaner.

6. Full scan pc with MS.

7. Restart pc.

8. Run CC cleaner, registry cleaner.

This whole process will take several hours so start when about to go out or going to bed.

Good luck.

Sorry, one thing further, once MS security essentials has been installed, all other virus software must be removed.

I said that I doubt that you would deliberately drop out - i.e. it's one explanation, but I didn't think it was likely.

Same with the virus - it's possible, but unlikely.

The most likely explanation is that you are having intermittent internet connectivity problems: this is not something you may notice with browsing the internet (a page might take longer to load than it normally would) or with posting on the forum (it might take longer to come back when you click on the "Post Comment" button), as neither of those uses require a continuous, uninterrupted connection to the server on the other end.

Playing Live Chess DOES require such a connection. It's pretty much a requirement. You ARE therefore going to notice any internet connection problems more. Who is your internet provider?

i think i will end this topic and move on  my final thougts are "people

should learn to accept defeat "  and  it really feels bad when u have

worked so hard  to defeat an oppenent and something like this happens

i  hate  these kind of loosers

Avatar of David

I agree completely, if by "people" you are referring to yourself. Unfortunately, it's pretty clear that you are not.

You did not lose (not "loose") a single game in that tournament - but you also said that you "won 3 games in a row". A tournament goes for 9 rounds normally - I think 4 is the minimum number. That means that YOU dropped out of the tournament. IF you did not do that deliberately, then it almost certainly YOUR internet connection and NOTHING to do with anything your opponents are or are not doing. They are not the "losers" here - by your behaviour you are demonstrating that not only did you lose those games, you are losing your own peace of mind, not to mention dignity.

When you learn to accept that the fault is with your own internet connection rather than calling your opponents cheats or chess.com - who is allowing to play chess for free, since you have not paid for membership - "unfair", you will have far more credibility than you have thus far demonstrated in this thread.

Caedrel why are you once again forcing  me to continue this topic

i  said i am done with this, again  u essentially want to blame for

everything even after expalining to you  this is not the case

you essentially come with all kind of excuses to show me in poor light

anyways  i alone know what actually happened i need explain myself again .

Avatar of showard495

I think it's clear that fdffe is in the habit of blaming others for his/her own actions and experiences. When Caedrel responded you were never "forced" to continue the topic.  If you've said what you have to say and declare that you're moving on, then do it and accept responsibility when you don't.  Just like a game of chess, in life you can't blame the other for the decisions you make.

Whoah, getting philosophical here....

And Caedral is clearly right.  You've experienced technical errors that are not a conspiracy against you.
