Well then only members of the correct rating will compete and I fail to see the problem here.

Steve, yes, and also, I get complaints from those who were invited who can not play. It is an annoyance to them to receive the invitation to something they can't participate in.
I have personally solved the problem by doing tournaments in bulks, providing links to like tournaments, so even if they can't join, they have links to ones that they can. I will post an example:

You use up all your allowed invites,on people who can't play.
oh there's a limit for that.
It would be nice of chess.com could "filter" out invites sent for tournaments according to ratings. I have a group of about 800 members and if I use the "group invite" option, all members get invited, even when they are outside of the tournament's rating range. This is an annoyance to many.
