Tounament allowing incorrect rated players to join

I have a issue with the ratings control in tournament, I set up  2 member only tournaments 1 for 1499 and under and 1 for 1500 and up, triple verified the settings are correct and sent group invites for both tounaments to the same team, assuming the software would only let the correctly rated players join the appropriate rated game.

Instead I got players rated 1800 in my 1499 and under and 1300's in the 1500 and up.

each tourny has a potential of 100 players and the group invite sent 503 invites!! I dont want to have to go thru line by line of all 1006 players before starting tounaments.

is chess .com aware of this problem? i had a much smaller scale issue a while back with a 26 player in house tourny and since it was auto start there was nothing we could do about.Frown

If they sign up and then their ratings change it might still let them play.

Other than that, I'm not sure.

i just created the tourny this morning as a invite only for one of my groups, i sent the group invite and within an hour we had 5 or 6 incorrectly placed members. If their rating increases beyond the allowable limits it should show them in red and not put them in any pairings when i start the tournament Sat. Also it should not let you join a tournament that your rating is too high or too low to join.

I posted this hoping either staff would see it or someone else who had this issue would point me to an allready active forum.

I guess ill send a ticket in.

Thanks guys Laughing

i think the glitch is in the coding for when you select advanced options when setting it up, and select invite only, then when its created you have the option of invite members or invite a group, i chose group and it sent the invite to the entire team. Here is where the software should not let out of range members join . like a parsing error or something, im no code jockey.

Corvidae, they are within the rating limits when they sign up. You can help control this by specifying how many games a member must have played to enter; the larger the sample base, the more likely the ratings will be accurate. This is not always the case.

By sorting the players entered by "Standing", it will put all of those who are "Invited" (but not registered) at the bottom of the list, giving you a mere 100 names to look at instead of 1000.

I have mentioned the "don't send inites when inviting an entire group to those who are out of the rating range" in "Chess.com feedback". Deepgreene submitted a ticket for the suggestion for us, but I don't hold my breath that they will consider this important enough to act on ...

nope sorry but they are not in the ranges. I think i understand what your saying, but the setup min is min 1500 no max, yet i clearly have a 1030 and 1303 a 1485 and  1483  among others. there is no way that 1030 dropped from a 1500 to a 1030 in 20 minutes from time on creation till he joined. and i checked his games just to make sure, I had this happen before, it only does this when i create  more than 1 invite only tournament for the same group, 1-1499 and lower and 1-1500 and up

Thanks for the tip on sorting thru them Laughing

At least someone else has seen this too. thanks Reg. I submitted a ticket , they said they are trying to recreate the problem.

Perhaps it lets anyone you invite join regardless of rating, and only restricts uninvited players. This would allow the TD to let his friends play or something, even if they are under/over the limit.

In two of my tournaments rated 1550- 1650: Players with an above 1900 ratings won. Why should I play in a tournament if chess.com is going to allow that? I quit both of these tournaments just for that reason.

Those tournaments started in October and September. More than half a year ago.

That's plenty of time for someone to go from 1600 to 1900.

In fact, if you look at the chess.com one the player started at 1585.

I am in an under 1250 tournament at the moment. It has been going for well over a year, and I was rated less than 1250 back then, in all rating systems (FIDE, USCF, and chess.com).

The rating limits are only for ratings at the day of tournament start, Just like team matches with rating limits, if the player drops or exceeds the parameters they are not paired even if signed up. that is what is supposed to happen in the tournaments, I have been doing inhouse member only dual rating tourny's for my 3 oldest groups for quite a while now and never had this problem till last month. thought it was a one time freak thing as i didnt see any forums about it anywhere.

in regards to players exceeding the rated limit after it starts, well people win and their scores go up. that is expected.
