Tournament with banned TD?

I don't know enough what might be happening.... What is even going on when the TD has had their account closed for violating fair play policies? https://ibb.co/hDHgLWd

I have had questionable messages myself of being "kicked out" for sandbagging from the TD when I had almost all of my games forfeit in a round as "my rating was too high" after.

Is this type of nonsense common? What is the supposed next step when the TD has been quite literally thrown out for bad behaviour? Its not a small tournament there are hundreds of people involved.

This would be no issue if this was say a 5 minute blitz tournament but this tournament started in ... May?! It is a correspondence chess tournament. I understand this is run from the outside but should I just bugger off from the tournament? Will it even continue? If it won't and the TD has been banned etc why was the tournament not ... shutdown? Shouldn't it at least let the players know that the TD was banned and their tournament is well ... over?! If not clear this would be no problem at all in a 5 round 5 minute game tournament but finding out that the TD of the tournament you have been in for ... MONTHS ... has been banned for bad behaviour is umm ... well ... yeah.

I think a tournament normally proceeds automatically but your tournament had announced that high rated players would be booted between rounds.

Without a TD, that won't happen.

You should write to support@chess.com and ask to take over the tournament.

At the moment, under those rules, many players would be kicked out before Round 3.

My rating as example is only up due to all the forfeits.

Seriously in two rounds I have actually won ... 5 games. I have had *11* forfeits.

Certainly kicking me out of a tournament because my rating is too high after having 11 forfeits is ... pretty ridiculous no?!

greg-young-7106

If not entire clear @notmttwain my rating is over by ... 2 points. My forfeits have boosted my rating by +-100 rating points.

I mean I can just go resign a game I have playing but this entire thing has been a @#$%show.

You wouldn't be kicked out because the rule was 1350 before Rounds 3 and 4.

greg-young-7106

Ah ok. I will just let it go then. Thanks. I thought it was 1300. I had received a message about such ...

Cheers.

A message from who? Chess.com? When?

Maybe someone is already acting as tournament director.

greg-young-7106

A TD IIRC it was some time ago ... This entire tournament has really been a #$%^show.

It looks like the original TD was banned on March 19th, months before the tournament even started.(May 4th)

Just report him. His account was closed. The second account was opened  the day after the first one was banned.

He shouldn't be in the tournament. His 1695 rating is in clear violation of the tournament rules.

greg-young-7106

Sorry mate ... I dont mean to sound like a complete idiot but ... how do I report someone who has had already had their account closed for fair play but is also running and playing in the tournament in some bizarre occurrence ON THE SAME ACCOUNT. One might expect the "account closed" would prevent them from running tournaments or ... playing games?

I really dont mean to be daft but he is signed in ... right now.

He is playing with a different account from the one that was banned.

You can report the open one and ask why someone with an account closed for fair play abuse is allowed another account.

greg-young-7106

Ah got it. Would this just be an email to admin@chess.com? This entire situation has been quite bizarre and I have not dealt with such things in the past.

greg-young-7106

nm emailing support@ you mentioned above.

notmtwain

I asked in the Cheating Forum what happens when a TD's account is closed. A staff member said they put those tournaments on automatic.

greg-young-7106

Thanks @notmtwain useful to know, appreciate it.

I guess the lesson in the future is to do research on the TD proportional to the amount of time you might invest in the tournament meh.png
