Today: Judit Polgar's Global Chess Festival, Online
The sixth Global Chess Festival will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020. As always, a wide variety of activities for young and old will be presented, this time online due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Sponsored by Morgan Stanley, the festival will include a free masterclass with main organizer Judit Polgar, interactive programs in education and science, discussions with chess legends, chess in arts, simuls, and tournaments.
Over 40 separate programs will be available on a virtual platform that was specially designed for the event. All through the day, there are Champions Talks with celebrities such as Garry Kasparov, the Polgar Sisters, Jan Timman, John Nunn, Oscar Panno, and Simen Agdestein.
There will be lectures on Chess and Decision-Making in Sports, Chess in Prisons, and Business Lessons that can be drawn from chess. There is a masterclass by Judit Polgar herself in which she looks at highlights of her rich career, and Judit and Sofia Polgar give simuls.
There will be tournaments for both youth players and older amateurs, chess films, chess lessons and tips for children, chess music, and virtual galleries with art by Sofia Polgar and Mariya Yugina and photos by Alina l’Ami and David Llada.
The Global Chess Festival's mission is "to promote the 1,000 faces of chess all around the world." The organizers describe their long-term goal as follows:
"We aim to share the beauty of chess with five million people by 2025, to connect and enjoy chess-related activities on the day of the festival. We feel important to express our passion for chess and highlight that chess is a universal language. This ancient board game forms a significant part of our culture and education today."
