Bio

Roman Dzindzichashvili is a Georgian-American grandmaster. He left the Soviet Union in 1976 and spent several years in Israel before settling in the United States. Dzindzichashvili was co-U.S. champion twice, in 1983 and 1989, and represented the country on its first board at the 1984 Chess Olympiad. The unusual opening 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 a6 is named the Dzindzi-Indian Defense after him.

A longtime chess coach, Dzindzichashvili has also contributed articles to Chess.com as well as a 2012 Chess.com lesson on playing against the Pirc Defense as White.
