Bio

Sultan Khan had an incredibly strong, yet mysteriously short, chess career. He won the British Championship three times in four tries and was easily one of the top-10 chess players in the world. However, his international career lasted fewer than five years. After going toe-to-toe with the world's best—and notching wins against the likes of Jose Raul Capablanca, Akiba Rubinstein, and others—Khan returned to British India (now Pakistan), and the chess world never heard from him again. On February 2, 2024, he was posthumously awarded the honorary grandmaster title.
