Jamhuri is the Swahili word for Republic. In Kenya, Jamhuri Day is celebrated on Dec, 12th.
Nairobi Chess Club uses to organize every year with great success the "Jamhuri Cup" honouring the day Kenya gained self-governance from the United Kingdom.
The shortage of classic chess events because of COVID is the reason for replicating the Jamhuri Cup online.

Nairobi Chess Club (NCC) is a small but active club in Kenya. It's the oldest chess club in Kenya, founded in 1958.
NCC provide opportunities for local chess players with events throughout the year.
Goan Gymkhana is the site of Nairobi Chess Club since 2011.

Nairobi Chess Club (NCC) is the oldest and more active club in Kenya, having registered on Feb.26th, 1958.
NCC has the pleasure to invite you to the thematic tournament "Sicilian Dragon Yugoslav Attack (NCC)".
The tournament will start on 2022, May.28th. There is no restriction because of rating.
Players will be distributed in groups of 3 players. The winner in each group will advance to the next round. Time control: 2 days/move. Any player will have 2 simultaneous games.

Richard Polaczek was a member of Nairobi ChessClub in the 1980s and the youngest player who has won the Kenya Open. He won the first edition in 1979 at the age of 13!
Now he is IM, resides in Belgium, and has represented Belgium in a number of international events.
