1. a4: Best Chess Opening!

6. Ra3!? can't be taken, as the bishop will clash into the c4 pawn, who was trying to jump on the other bishop.

I've just started my own spin-off of this. It's called 'Epic win with 1. h4!!!!'

So if anyone wants to post there, feel free.

What Sandstreampop said was forced was not forced at all. For example, Nc3 wasn't a forced second move becuase almost all Grandmasters play Nf3 to reach a Ruy Lopez. Furthermore Bb2 when mate was very clear wasn't forced because of Nf3. Last of all very rarely does anyone fianchetto their dark sqare bishop when playing e4 and none of the moves he said were forced were actually forced. Every World Champion has played e4 and no one plays a4 not even 5 year olds.

It’s funny you say that not even a 5 yo would play this cuz the only reason I looked up this ridiculous opening is because 5yo Magnus Carlsen (from Play Magnus) just played it against me. Lol

Carlsen did start with 1.a4 in this game mentioned in this video.

Hello. It is I, formerly known as Darthion. And as an avid chess enthusiast, I have studied many openings that eventually led to certain impenetrable death.

Except for one move, 1.a4!.

When I first acquired the basic ideas of 1.a4, I was in bursts of hysteria. This felt to me like a joke from the gods. I found my faith in humanity for this move so devoid, I divorced my wife for no reason. I denied the potential of this move.

How wrong I was.

1.a4!, or what I call the Superior Opening, is the pinnacle of chess evolution. It has always remained as the best opening since the dawn of chess. The beauty of 1.a4 is not just the move, it's also the psychological factor that really turns the tides of the game. Playing this move emanates a feeling of intimidation so powerful, the opponent feels willing to throw the game on first sight of this glorious move. Played right, it will guarantee victory all the time.

The game that sandstreampop played against Robert Fischer is the prime example of what 1.a4! can do. I have seen many games like it, where Black always succumbs to death. The full opening of this is shown:

Now I know what you're thinking: "But Darthion, how am I ever supposed to win as Black? I'm always Black 50% of the time I play chess!" In regards to this, I have spent the last decade trying to perfect a strategy against the Superior Opening. And I think I may have cracked the code.

Enter the Superior Opening Fate Declined. Through extensive research about the history of chess and its correlation to pancreatic cancer, I have deducted a powerful move to match 1.a4. It seems only the strongest men can even dare to play this move, as anyone weaker than 4200 USCF that plays this move will somehow die to a lack of a pancreas. You have been warned.

If you want some more insight on the Superior Opening Fate Declined, feel free to ask me! I'll also analyze certain lines relating to 1.a4 if you want me to. By the way, yes, sandstreampop is well over the rating requirement necessary to play SOFD. He is a godly being, after all.

I never knew that 1.a4 was the best move.

Oh my god, a4 work!!!!!

I’ve actually played 1.a4 in USCF tournaments just for fun

You’re really only ceding whites slight advantage and(hopefully) taking things out of book making preparation useless

My fave opening strategy, is move my knight. It’s cool how it can jump over other pieces
