Kasparov's new 1.g4 Opening

I do think some crazy openings maybe are winning for a computer, but not a human, due to the tedious requirements of the line. Why bother trying to play them ?

I guess maybe a SGM would like his chances against most others...

I like to follow the advice of GM Khachiyan. He said, " no matter what kind of abberant moves your opponent makes, and you are making good, solid, logical moves, you really have nothing to worry about. And if your opponent is making outrageous moves, he should be punished!"

I think this was originally an April Fool's joke 4 years ago, but actually in a small local tournament of under 1800 type players, Grob's attack can be effective. First, players aren't all 'booked' up on it and second it has somewhat of a surprise value.  Does this work above 2000....no. But in local tournaments with 1200 to 1800 rated players, I think it does. I know it does b/c I've seen it win. Players take the 'free' pawn and lose the rook and sometimes more. Seriously, look it up for club play or at the high school level. Of course, it should only be played here and there and not be your main white opening.

ofc it works against above 2000 players sometimes.

I have some secret lines with g4 in my notebook. Send me a IM and I might sell those to you at a reasonable price.

" Botvinnik must have concluded that very thing and it would appear that so did 3 of his most prominent students, contrary to the title of this thread. "
