there is a spell checker, but not grammar :)
Chess.com Feature Requests and Wishlist #3

We don't know for sure Erik implemented this. Anyway, if he's so quick and efficient - as you put it - where's my Grandma Chequer?

Ok so we need a grammar checker! or a grandma chequer? Interesting... I don't mean to be grammar police if you look at my posts most of the things I write are unintelligible garbled crap. Kind of like my chess......
My ideas for chess.com: by anthony spinali
(excuse my ignorance if a) these already exist, b) they are already on the list, c) they are just horrible ideas, or d) they make no sense from a programming standpoint.)
1. Chess history factoid of the day/week....silly but front page appropriate. It could be as simple as a paragraph and a link to another site or as complex as members contributing chess history facts and new ones come up each week. (I'm probably not the person to do this so this is me making work for others...)
2. Practice Board - this seems like an oversight but I think every page should have a link to open up a chess board with no constraints on it. This means you could move the pieces anywhere and in any order to look at different positions or whatever. This would be particularly helpful in the forums to work on puzzle ideas or to examine ideas about which someone has written. This would ideally be in addition to the analysis board which is great. Maybe it could have all the pieces on the side and you could drag them onto the board. It probably should also have a feature to allow you to place multiple queens as well. (This would replace the need to have a real board next to you while studying chess! I can't even set up a board in my house without my cat destroying it. Remember bachelors and bachelorettes till death do you part also applies to you and the pets of your significant others!)
3. (I've posted this elsewhere...) I'd really like to see the "details" screen reflect the position shown on the board rather than the position of the current state of the game. Currently if you review a game the details don't change as pieces are added back to the board. Additionally the same problem occurs on the analysis board. If you take a piece on the analysis board this is not reflected in details. This will help us weaker players analyze positions and count the point values for the pieces as we look at variations.
4. More on details.... Is it possible to have the details always showing? I'd prefer to always be able to glance down and see how many pawns I've lost. I know this is easy for good players but not all of us see the board so well. People who like to play OTB rules may not want the points added up but it would still be nice to see the pieces like in the live chess interface.
5. Move the chess.com store out of resources and give it it's own link on every page. If you want people to buy stuff they have to know where. Honestly I didn't know there was a store until I started writing this today. If you've ever seen Spaceballs you know it's all about merchandising. You need Chess.com coffee mugs, Chess.com chess sets, Chess.com stationary, Chess.com greeting cards (with nerdy greetings that find clever ways to use checkmate in a birthday card), and most importantly an Erik action figure that says chess stuff like "Control the Center!" Maybe premium members could sell chess related stuff there like books if they are masters (or just book writers). Being poor myself I'm not likely to buy anything but it stands to reason that a few of these 40,000 people would like to waste their money on chess.com junk! I probably would buy chess books there.
6. Chess.com resource reviews maybe a page where someone credible can review a book or program that teaches chess and at the bottom members can comment on the reviews. I know this sort of already exists but it's just a description and some random comments i was thinking more magazine style where it's more opinionated review and maybe a little longer. (I realize that to have someone credible review it they have to get paid so this may be a horrible idea....)
7. I think there should occasionally be tournaments in which one can win a membership for a month or year.... (If this exists already I apologize I haven't looked into the tournaments very much...)
That's all for now my brain hurts....

I would like a feature on the analysis board in games saying "add to notes" where you play ut a line you are thinking of playing against your opponent and when you click add to notes it automatically writes down the algebraic moves that you have analysed from the current position!
Is this simply laziness?

Wow that's an awesome idea
If you could save your variations....
Another thought I had was I would like notated somewhere how the game was started. Did I make the challenge? Was I challenged? Was it my open seek or theirs? It could be as simple as the temporary title for the game could be "TheAOD challenges Erik" instead of "Lets Play." You can still change the title if you like.
I often find that I'm playing someone and I cannot remember the context of the beginning of that game.... It would give me an oppurtunity to say thanks for the challenge.

I'd like to request a modification to the group vs group vote chess:
At the moment, when you go to the "vote chess" from the group homepage, you only see a list of the current games. You don't see any of the completed games by that group. I have the option of listing all games that I personally have played in, but that option doesn't exist for the group as a whole (who may have played some games without me for example). Since the search by player is already functioning, I'm guessing that a search by group should be an easy task.
Also, once the game is over, I'd like to see the Team Comments for both sides become available to all, regardless of whether we played in that game or not. There's no reason to keep it a secret anymore since the game is over, and I'd love to read the discussions for studying purposes.

Something like a mute list for players you would prefer not to play again.
Perhaps, a way to tag their name, so that they can't autojoin one of your games and you would get a dialog box if you tried to play them. [are you sure you want to play with 'playerx ' ? ]
I guess tournaments would be an exception to this feature.

I've asked for something similar in the past, only instead of "add to notes" I was looking for an "add as conditional line" feature.

Are you looking for something different from the Blocking facility? http://www.chess.com/forum/view/help-support/blocking-someone

Another thing in the group vs group vote chess:
Do you think we could have the win-loss-draw record for the team displayed on the team vote chess page like our personal records are diplayed on our online chess page?

Quick question: what happens in Vote Chess when the votes for two or more prospective next moves are tied?

The move that received the first vote wins. Which sucks, but such is life, because if the first move is bad and after discussing it the group comes to realize that the other move is better you are still stuck with the first move in such cases.
Unless the group can persuade someone else to join - and vote the right way. Thay should hold someone in reserve for just such a contingency.

Remember moves from vs. computer so you can view your past games.
It would be good if more mac downloads would be available since most of the downloads are for Windows.
I also have a thing that I would really wish. If you see a forum or page in chess.com you should be able to "remember" it on a chess.com toolbar so you can refer to if without tracking it. This is useful if you find a good game or opening that you would like to learn or study and you can't find it again.

i hear this request occassionally and i'm just not sure why we should duplicate browser favorites or things like delicious... :) but great suggestions!
TheAOD wrote: I realize that you have already cleared this up but,
I believe he meant "Erik is nothing IF not efficient." which is quite different than "Erik is nothing is not efficient." ...

Thanks, Anthony, for ACTUALLY clearing the confusion - instead of merely ADDING to it!
I'd like to see a Spell- and Grammar-Checker for posters in the Forums!
