I think that one of the advantages of turn based chess respect to blitz games is the possibility to analyze games better taking some time when possible. For this reason, when I play in chess.com I like to use private notes to annotate games.

But after some play, I found at least two problems that made private notes ineffective:

1) missing autosaving of text

2)  impossibility to comment move-by-move

---

The first is the major problem, because more than once I lost entered text because I forgot to press the "Save my notes" button. In some cases I suppose that also the page reloading (i.e. when opponent move) cause the loss of text entered (I'm not sure about this).

I think that notes should be automatically saved at page reloads to avoid this, otherwise at least a pop-up should inform when text is to be losed, asking for confirmation (I prefer the first, seen that is extremely rare - in my advice - to enter text adn do not want to save it).

---

The second is less important and more complex, but I think that can be a great improvement for the site: add the possibility to annotate the game move-by-move since during playing, just like I can do with a typical chess database application during analysis of games.

A useful corollary of this improved function is to save private notes with the pgn file to have the comments with downloaded games

Thanks guys! (and excuse for my poor english)

Maybe they should try to combine the analysis board and the personal notes.

Indeed.  I've run into this several times. Frown

I would prefer game notes to be the first visible box on entering a game, in place of messages. I realise this could be less popular as most may not want to miss a message from their opponent when entering a game, so probably better to have the option to have game notes as the first visible box, or a seperate permanently visible box on entering a game. Reason being for me, I often forget to check if I have actually written any notes on entering a game if the notes aren't immediately visible to me, failing the above I'll just have to try to remember to check each time I visit my game :)

Nice suggestion!  If Quaff's idea isn't possible, I also just submitted an idea to have an astrisk near the "Notes" tab to remind us that we have notes in there.  But I like Quaff's idea better.  Tongue out

Yes, thanks KnightNotHorse. I saw afterwards, your earlier idea of an asterix also a good idea, failing the seperate box.
