I had to look up this variation of the English Opening on 365chess. It's called the Capablanca Variation and seems to be intended as a reversed Sicilian. As such, I was surprised to see your 7th move since in the Sicilian the defending side is eager to trade a side pawn (c-pawn) for a center pawn (d-pawn) via ...cxd4, which in this reversed case would be analogous to 7. cxd5. That pawn trade is in fact the standard move per book.

On the other hand, I was also surprised to see your 3rd move 3. Nf3 and Black's response 3...Nc6 since in the Sicilian P-Q3 is played to prevent your opponent from chasing off your knight with his P-Q5, but your moves were the top favored book moves there, so clearly there are nuances of the English of which I'm not familiar but that you are.

Your 7. d4 moves the same man in the opening, which lost a tempo before you castled. Also, 12. Bf4 looks like it should have been 12. Bd2, since you have almost a Nimzo-Indian setup there. On top of the neglected pawn exchange I mentioned earlier, you began running into trouble with 12...Re8+, which forced you to start retreating developed pieces and to go on the defensive since you didn't have time to castle by then. It turns out you won, but with better play Black could have caused you a lot of trouble because of those opening inaccuracies.

Thank you for the advice and comments! I agree I definitely need to improve my opening play! I just started with the english but I know this is no excuse I definitely need to put more thought into my opening play.
