The anti-cat USCF and FIDE organizations have repeatedly denied my kitty entry into proper over-the-board events. There is currently a legal battle being fought by the ASPCA and PETA to recognize the God Given Right for all animals to play in chess tournaments in the USA. Until this is resolved, cat kan only haz intirnet chesss.
I propose a new chess title: CGM

A cat, no, but there is at least one documented case of a dog having an official chess grade:

nice one! also a nice picture of a gorilla playing on the bottom of that page.

In order to not discourage more cats from playing chess, we should also have cat-only tournaments where the cats could get a more realistic chance at the CGM title.

I don't see any technical reason you couldn't register your pet as a USCF member and then register for a tournament. On the application sign your pet's name with yours as agent for and guardian of the pet. Then just mail in your tournament entry fee. The cat in question will probably lose on time all its games but that will earn it a provisional rating and depending on the competition it loses to it may even be a 900 rating.
CGM stands for Cat Grandmaster.
If a cat reaches 800 rating, he will henceforth be known as Cat Grandmaster (CGM).
WCGM = Woman Cat Grandmaster (WCGM). (Rating 700)
