what is the longest  game in terms of moves anyone has  had?  my longest is 165 moves. it involved me having a bishop and knight against a king. i failed to win !

trysts

I know I've had a few games over a hundred moves, maybe a 130 moves was the longest I remember.

TheYear9876

wow i asked that question 12   months  ago lol

trysts

Wow! I didn't even see that? It was on the first page of "New unread posts"?

@OP: Have you practiced that Bishop-and-Knight mate in that time? Smile

TheYear9876

nahhh i didnt think it  worth spending a lot of time on something that comes up so rarely, but it is incredibly difficult.

ChessinBlackandWhite

at your rating it may be time to learn it....as I have been telling myself for a while now hahaha

TheYear9876

all i know is u need  to force the king into a corner the same colour as the bishop.

ChessinBlackandWhite

right. often they will run to the opposite corner which makes the mate pretty easy since there is just a pattern of moves. If the oppossing king tries to stay in the center then I offer the draw haha

TheYear9876

apparently  GMs  have failed to  do it  in  the required 50 moves

ChessinBlackandWhite

I believe you get 75 moves in that position? and 2 bishops maybe?

TheYear9876

i think its 50 moves from last pawn capture.

ChessinBlackandWhite

for some reason I thought with the the bishop and knight it was more since it is possible to have a position in which a checkmate is impossible in less than 50 moves. I may just be making this up but I thought someone told me that once

TheYear9876

wow 269 moves !!   and it was a draw lol.  wonder  how many hours that game took.

@MichaelPorcelli: Some positions do you require more than 50 moves to checkmate against best defense, but the 50-move rule is never exempted for such positions. Also, K+B+N v. K is forcible in around 25-30 moves from any position.

An example of a material configuration that requires more than 50 moves to accomplish checkmate is K+R+B v. K+R. Therefore, the scenario is simply considered a draw.
