People who play for free and complain

I could not keep quiet anymore had to get this off my chest. I have read a few topics here and there and it turns into a moan  and complain about this website. They play a lot of games on this website and play for free and then complain how bad it is or how it is inferior to other chess sites. I jsut cringe when I read some of these post from these people. I remeber when you could not find a chess website on the internet  that was good. I hardly know anyone who plays chess and I ended up getting chess master to playon my lap top.  I found this site and think it is pretty nice. I cant complain anytihng about the site. I don't make any money from this site.I think it is run well, and I am thankful for the chance to play some fun chess games. I guess I am old school when i see people who play for free  and just complain on and on about the site. I have thing to say leave.

Rich,

I have played cheaters (that is: people using surreptitiously chess playing software during play) on chess.com site and I have reported them. Now, chess.com no longer lists caught cheaters. That's one reason why I complain. A perfectly legitimate and relevant reason to complain.

And then (my impression) chess.com does not seem to catch cheaters as much: that's a huge reason why anyone could complain. Your rating suggests to me that you may not meet a lot of cheaters... but as soon as you reach 1400, you will meet cheaters.

I have other reasons too.

Rich,

I reported joe697769 minutes after I played him: that's 5 days ago

http://www.chess.com/livechess/game?id=1158877684

and his account was closed today or recently.

Now, this joe697769 played hundreds of people on this server and hundreds of games ... before his account was closed.

And you are asking me and everyone else why we complain about chess.com ?????

I do argree maybe they could do a better job about cheating-----Think on eproblem is people who complain about cheating and there was no cheating and they simply got beat.  I think it is not always easy to tell who is cheating and I guess once someone is caught cheating  there should be a better system to keep them from playing again. I think some people complain about stupid stuff.

Another one: fangatigui1 .

I played him 6 days ago, just minutes after I played joe697769 . I reported him. And his account is closed now. Again, chess.com has a cheating problem and they intentionally removed the page where they used to list caught cheaters.

They removed it because it wasn't the kind of deterrent they hoped it would be. Beyond that, what business is it of yours?

1. Complaints aren't necessarily bad.

2. Without free users this site would have a very hard time to survive.

There is a big problem with cheaters on this server. Without a list of caught cheaters, a wide majority of users can not see just an estimation of how widespread the problem is.

There used to be an average of 20 closed accounts added to that list every day, every single day.

Why would I pay so much for what I can do free on other sites?

Why would I pay so much to get abused by cheaters???

Paying does not grant the right to complain, nor does not paying revoke the right to complain.

Whether you have a paid membership or not has no bearing on the topic.  If you want to complain about complainers (ironic), fine, but their membership status is irrelevant to the topic.

Rich,

Generally speaking, I am opened to criticisms on any subject or issue as long as an alternative (to a criticized situation) that can be realistically implemented is proposed, as long as some kind of counter-proposal (with realistical foundation) is forwarded. A criticism can be very tough but, at the same time, very relevant and very constructive.

Cheaters: ban them and list them in broad daylight. And do not hesitate to advertise such server policy. And have your article writers at chess.com write about this issue.

I will most likely move to another chess server because of cheaters at chess.com. Because there is a big problem of cheaters at chess.com. And I know I am not the only one who has made such "move" and I know at least one who is considering such move because of cheaters on this server.

But any server is going to have cheaters, right?

@Mozart12

Do You ever play people with 1500+ rating?  It's a bit strange to see all Your opponents are like 1300+ :D

Mozart12

Yes, shakedaspear: any server is - most likely - going to have cheaters anyway.

I agree the best thing about the site is no matter when you want to play there is always someone to play against in live chess.

this wouldn't be the case if the site wasn't free.

I used to play people within my rating range ... only to notice that some (several?) were cheating. And so I changed my rating filter formula... and still met cheaters.

But rating doesn't mater so much here.
Once i stumbled on some guy who was about my rating, he beat the hell out of me with 18:3 score.
Of course he went up with his rating and I haven't had a chance to play against him again.
In few weeks I checked his profile and found it to be closed for cheating.

I play within my rating (mostly -50/ +200) and don't care if someone will use the engine, it's not a problem to lose few games.
I just don't find it interesting to play much weaker players (not trying to offend anyone here).

From my point, it's about playing good games, and not about winning all the time.

lol.. I would word that a bit differently but, you're right! :oP  We don't pay to play - that's free. and I'd bet that the presence of all of the non-paying players helps with the advertizing income on top of the fact that there are always (always) opponents to play against. Chess Mentor is worth paying for (just my opinion), and I don't think you can get what it provides anywhere for free.. anyways.. my point is that nonpaying players are part of what makes this site so good, so it makes sense to me that C.c would want to hear there comments...

But dudes... enough with the blanket "cheating" statements. Someone up there said that lots of people are cheating once you get up to the 1400 range... c'mon.. lol.. If there are people who are at my meager rating and have to cheat to be there... then bring them on... lol Who cares?!  If you can offer me a good game at the level I play at then go ahead and cheat... what difference does it make? I've played enough games here by now, and I've never had an opponent I suspected of cheating - but I guess.. how would I know if they were? how do you know?  lol
