What is the best web browser for chess.com?

Gaming computer mouse I think.

Mm, I've been using Firefox Portable... Shall try Google Chrome then and see if there's an improvement in the responsiveness and speed of the live chess interface (very subpar for bullet games).

Can anyone confirm if Chrome is significantly better than Firefox in the live chess interface? Is the difference very noticeable in bullet games? If not, I have no reason to change browser.

To answer my own question and for those who are wondering... No, there's no significant improvement in the live chess interface when switching from Firefox to Chrome. It's pretty much the same. The shortcomings of the live chess interface are innate; no browser will correct them, unfortunately.

All webpages (not just chess.com) load and run slightly faster and smoother in Chrome, but this comes at the expense of a huge memory hog. Not good for an old PC running Vista with only 1 GB of RAM like mine. Sticking to Firefox for now.

I should debunk this paragraph because I finally managed to get rid of the slowness of the live chess interface. Its shortcomings (lagginess, slowness, unresponsiveness, etc,) aren't necessarily innate. After some experimentation with some hidden settings in Firefox, I found that the major culprit in my system were the ads. Not just the ads displayed in chess.com, but from all the other pages browsed as well. Ads eat too much memory, CPU and probably bandwidth, especially those based on flash.

Instead of installing some adblocker, the more elegant solution I found was to enable "tracking protection" on Firefox. In addition to truly preventing websites from tracking one's online activity (unlike the "Do Not Track" option which websites aren't obligated to honor), this setting won't let any sort of tracking-based ad load on webpages. This has the added benefit of improving page load time and lowering the memory and CPU footprints of the browser.

I also completely disabled memory and disk cache in Firefox. On my system, this worsens my browser's performance after long periods of time instead of improving it, as it should. Eats up too much memory, and then the hard disk is too slow to keep up.

Another thing that can help to lower the memory consumption and increase speed in Firefox is to lower the number of pages that Firefox caches up in the session history. This article explains how to reduce session history and disable disk and memory cache. NOTE that disabling cache isn't recommended if you're not experiencing any memory issues.

After all these changes - particularly blocking the CPU and memory hungry ads with the tracking protection setting enabled - the live chess interface is now practically free of the laggy and jerky feel. Now, it's truly responsive and smooth. I can move the pieces fast and smoothly without any strange stuttering. Bullet experience is much improved, and I don't lose on time for no reason.

So for those with sub-par live chess experience on Firefox, the above tweaks might be useful. I've done a few more tweaks to my browser, but their cumulative effect seems negligible. The above were the bulk of what really needed to be done.

What are the display problems you are having in Firefox?

I may be able to help.

I have a problem playing on chess.com on Firefox too. When I moving pieces (live or corresponding) the animation is not fluid there is some jumping with animation and this is very annoying especialy in live games. With Chrome there is ok.

Kundakaps

It's so fast that you wont believe it.

I have an old computer that couldn't do bullet chess.

Now with Microsoft Edge it's as good as new.

I use Chrome and it works out really well for me. Haven't had any problems whatsoever to date.

Shameless plug:

I just uploaded a video of me playing a 15+10 game on chess.com with live commentary and analysis (Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/BxgWwim6vPE). I also have other instructional, educational content on the channel that can help you improve your game, so make sure to check that out as well. Every subscription means a lot to me, so if you subscribe, I’ll really appreciate it.

Lol, old thread but still, who uses Opera in 2015? Literally the worst browser. Nokia uses it!
