When you are teaching a bunch of little kids to behave you used to be able to say, "What if your mother was watching you now?" They would get guilty looks in their eyes and settle down. This doesn't work anymore.
Who do children respect these days?
The way some of them treat their mothers... and using religious icons is generally not allowed in public schools... They can't relate to an old favorite "What if this person was interviewing you for a job?"
If only they allowed us to teach them chess. *SIGH*
In one of my past jobs I worked with children who were having a variety of problems. I honestly don't know who most of them respect. All i know is many of them have no clue about consequences so they make the same mistakes over and over again until they are big mistakes. Also I think pride is important, I might say to a youngster, "you might consider giving some thought to doing this correctly if only because it is YOURS." this is a tough issue pawnshover. And let's remember that there are thousands and thousands of great kids. I mean fantastic. Sometimes they can get lost in the turmoil.

"Judit is watching you!" or "I'll tell Vishy!"
