Needlessly erasing deleted users content!

I know it's been this way for a long time, but:

When a user gets deleted, instead of deleting all of their forum posts (and all of their comments in tactics trainer), how about replacing the username associated with such posts to be "CLOSED ACCOUNT" or something?

Conflagration_Planet

Maybe because some are deleted for spam or abuse, and they don't want to bother differentiating between those, and the others.

erik

that is correct, woodshover. but yes, ozzie, we need to fix this. it's actually not GONE, just not shown.

oinquarki

Would it be possible to make it so that people who close their own account don't get their stuff disappeared?

goldendog

There's so much funny and useful content gone into limbo with the closed accounts.

I hope we can get it all back someday.

Conquistador

The return of suggo.

goldendog

Even suggo may return...and ouachita?

No need to alter the username. It would just be "Account Closed" when you click on it.

In light of the recent account closures, one of the highest rated members, Gonnosuke, was found cheating. However, he also posted a lot of chess-related stuff that proved he did have some significant knowledge in this game. I honestly would like to be able to access it and see if I could understand it any better than I did, say, a year ago. He also posted other interesting tidbits that are definitely worth reading time and again.

So here's another member who would certainly appreciate seeing this change occur. :)

 It already has!

Not sure that it was used for content related to the recent round of bans though. Would be good to at least have Gonnosuke's content restored even if he was cheating.

Going to his content page, I see nothing.

Is it just me then? o_0

I guess it's just people who delete their own accounts.

Just checked back on my Dr_Doc_MD account, which I closed off myself. No way to access that content (not that it was particularly incredible... just a browse through memory lane... not that it was so long ago).

TheGrobe
That content's best left burried.
Conflagration_Planet

There are a lot of deleted accounts on here whose contents we can still read. They changed so we could a couple month ago.

StairwayToTruth

Eh, I had a few good ones there. I agree that most of it was silly and relatively pointless, but it wouldn't hurt to put it back up since it's all in chess.com's system. I'd be the only one looking back at it anyway. XD

Conflagration_Planet

Voluntarily deleted accounts are back up. Look how old this thread is. See post below.

I was checking a bunch of the links there. I'm absolutely unable to access any of the content of those accounts.

Was it possible that they're back in the shade once again?
