1. Lucena Position (Rook + Pawn vs Rook)
- White wins by building a bridge:
- Black's rook can't stop the pawn
2. Philidor Position (Rook + Pawn vs Rook)
- Black draws by cutting off white king:
- White can't make progress
3. Opposite-Colored Bishops
- Often drawish due to bishop's inability to attack opponent's pawns
- Focus on creating passed pawns on opposite wing
4. Rook vs Bishop (no pawns)
- Generally drawn, but rook has winning chances if bishop is passive
5. King + Pawn vs King
- Opposition decides outcome: if white has opposition, promote pawn
- Key squares: control squares in front of pawn
6. Two Bishops Mate
- Use bishops to cut off king, force checkmate

- Create outside passed pawn, distract opponent's king
- Often used to win endgames
21. Blockade
- Block opponent's pawn, prevent promotion
- Use pieces to support blockade(KNIGHTS ARE BEST)
22. Filing a Pawn
- Push pawn to promote, use pieces to support
- Often involves sacrificing material
23. Minor Piece vs Pawn
- Use minor piece to block pawn, promote own pawn
- Often involves king support
24. Rook Pawn Endgame
- Rook pawn often draws, even with extra pawn
- Exceptions: Lucena position, active king
25. Bishop Pawn Endgame
- Bishop pawn often wins, especially with opposite bishops
- Exceptions: wrong-colored bishop
