Cleveland Open Rnd 3- Stephen Tymcio v Stacia Pugh (Scandinavian Defense)
In my 3rd game of the Cleveland Open (my 2nd tournament ever!) I faced a college student named Stephen Tymcio. After a fairly equal opening and middle game we found ourselves in an interesting end game where both sides had chances.
Black missed a winning tactic and white escapes with a strong pass c pawn. If the pawn can be stopped then black just might win! But if not, the pawn could prove decisive for white. This was my other looooong game of the tournament. Took 5 hours and over 70 moves but of course the video is fairly concise. .
The Cleveland Open was 5 rounds and I will post the other games as well in this short series. I played the U1500 section and the time control was 100 minutes for the first 40 moves, 30 minutes sudden death after that, and 10 second delay throughout. Enjoy!
