The JYPX method is introduced here: https://www.chess.com/blog/MisterOmega/jypx-method-for-chess-decision-making

The use of the JYPX method to solve tactical combinations is detailed here: https://www.chess.com/blog/MisterOmega/the-jypx-method-to-solve-tactical-combinations

The use of the JYPX method to make a plan is detailed here: https://www.chess.com/blog/MisterOmega/jypx-method-to-make-a-plan

There are calm positions, not subject to tactical combinations, that occur when the main plan is already established. It's about playing the best move. Remember that it is essential to have a plan, as Victor Korchnoï said, "it is always better to play a wrong plan logically than to have no plan at all". But, in a game, there may be moments of floating, during which one plays a positional move or a logical move that is part of a long and/or short-term plan. Again, the JYPX method applies because there is always a plan. We must then apply the JYPX method at least completely for our own camp.

In this game of 2001 between P. Hofmann and C. Kaulfuss, we are at the 17th move and the blacks have just played Cd7.

Black side:

What? Blacks have no immediate threats.

White side:

Why? A weakness in the black camp is the position of the Queen and the Bishop whose placement would allow a fork with Kd5.

What? The whites want to trade their Knight for the Bishop f6.

How? By eliminating the e6 pawn and making a fork with the Knight between the Queen and the Bishop.

Where? The action takes place in d5.

Who? the d4 pawn and the c3 Knight are mobilized.

When? as soon as possible.

How much? The exchange takes place in three moves.

For what? It's about the whites getting the advantage of the pair of Bishops.

The whites therefore play 18) e5; exd5. 19) Kxd5; Qf8. 20) Kxf6+; Kxf6. We're in this position.

The whites are better because they have the pair of Bishops, The position of the Black King is more weakened than that of the White King because of the weakness on black squares, the white pieces are a little more mobile and better organized, even if the structure of white pawns is more Unfavorable. The whites will eventually win this game.
