The Sicilian Defense requires great precision from both sides, and the Keres Attack in the Sicilian is one of the sharpest of all possible variants. Generally, Black is on the back foot here, but one misstep can turn everything around!

Watch how Kasparov's trainer and Sicilian specialist, GM Gennadi Timoschenko, vigorously punishes IM Pokojowczyk's errors in the following thrilling game!

Top 10 Games of the 1970s

The game starts well for Pokojowczyk, but with some some alternately overly cautious (13.Rg1?!) and then overly aggressive (15.Nd5?!) play, Timoschenko gets a chance to take over. With vigorous and brilliant play (22...Bf6!!), he drives home a beautiful and winning attack!

Notes, including some of Timoschenko's annotations from Informant are below.
