The 2010s were Magnus Carlsen's decade! He absolutely dominated the chess landscape. Despite that, you might be hard-pressed to think of Carlsen's best game of the decade. My pick is his 2013 victory over Sergey Karjakin. Magnus' style has evolved over the decade, but here, you see him in his famous grind form, squeezing water from stones.

Top 10 Games of the 2010s

Lessons:

  • Chess is a marathon; not a sprint.
  • Not all opposite-colored bishop endings are drawn (esp. with rooks on).
  • Challenge your opponent to calculate when they are in time pressure.
