The 3 Best Attacking Openings For Black (Part 2)
A couple of months ago i posted a blog called "The 3 Best Attacking Openings For Black" and it became one of my most viewed blogs(thanks for that guys btw) since then I have made many more blogs, which you guys seem to like also, however in the black opening blog I labeled it a “part on” in hope of doing more openings/gambits/variations in a different blog.
Well folks the day for that blog has arrived, so sit back and relax for The 3 Best Attacking Openings For Black , Part Two.As like last time we will cover 3 openings. I hope you enjoy this one.
1. The Ulvestad Variation
The Ulvestad Variation is one of the many lines black can use to destroy any white player playing the Knight Attack, more commonly known as The Fried Liver Attack, which comes from 1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 and here white plays 4.Ng5, some of the variations that black can use to destroy this include the normal variation with 4...d5 5.exd5 Na5 ,another one is the Ponziani Steinitz Gambit with 4...Nxe4 , and another popular one is The Traxler Counter attack which I have already covered in another blog.
Meanwhile the Ulvestad Variation comes from the normal variation, for after white takes our gambit pawn with 5.exd5 , instead of playing Na5 we play 5...b5!!.
Key Advantages:
The reason why the Ulvestad Variation works so well is because white does not expect you to play b4, to them it just seems like some sort of stupid move noobs play, so they don’t study it which means they don’t know how to defend against it. Like for example the two most popular moves for white are ether 6.dxc6 or 6.Bxb5, which are both incorrect moves as the best move according to engine is, BF1!!.
No the engine isn’t mad, Bf1 is the only move that keeps the advantage, and this translates into games as well as after Bxb5 black has a 59% win rate and after dxc6 black has a 54% win rate, quite large win rates for black so early on.
This is because if black plays correctly in the main line of this variation white for basically the entire middle game is trying to find a way to not get checkmated as your attack is so strong and at the same time white usually doesn’t know how to play against it.
Great Tactic :
After we play Sb5, starting the opening the second most popular move for white is 6.dxc6, we play bxc4 and here white often goes7.O-O, which is a mistake because we play h6 kicking off there knight, they go 8.Nf3 we play e4 9.Ne5 Bd6 they go 10.Nxc4 and here we play BXH2!! white has to go 11.Kxh1 Ng4+ 12.Kg3 Qh4 and you win.
2. The Englund Gambit
The Englund Gambit starts off with white playing 1.d4 and here we respond with not the usual moves black plays like d5 or Nf6, no here we play e5 gambiting our pawn.
Key Advantages:
So you are probably asking me “Noah why did I just lose my pawn for no apparent reason?” well you see, there is a catch. The lose of your e pawn allows for quick development for your pieces, while at the same time many unprepared lower rated opponents fall for the many traps in this opening. Even if they don’t fall for any of the traps it can still give you a very good attacking position if you know how to play it correctly, as we can see many players do as in the main line of the gambit after 4.Bf4 (the most popular move) black wins over 59% if there games if he plays Qb4+.
Great Tactic:
After 2.dxe5 we go Nc6 and here the most popular move is 3.Nf3, to that you go Qe7 and here white plays 3.Bf4 and to this you play Qb4+ and here whit goes 4.Bd2 Qxb2 and here a very popular move is 5.Bc3 and here we play Bb4!! and here 200,000 people played 6.Qd2, which loses to Bxc3 7.Qxc3 and Qc1#.
3. The Budapest Defense
The Budapest Defense starts off with 1.d4 and we play Nf6, they go 2.c4 and here we strike out with e5! This is the Budapest Defense.
Key Advantages:
The Budapest Defense is a very aggressive gambit that often is given a bad reputation by the media because many players who use it often rely on the opponent to fall for traps however even if your opponent doesn’t fall for any of your traps it will still build up a large attacking advantage for you that you can still exploit if you know how to do it correctly. And at the same time there are still several traps in the opening that many people still don’t know.
Great Tactic:
Instead of 3.dxe5 the most popular move, many people play 3.d5 instead, here you play Bc5 and a very popular move from white is 4.Bg5 which is a big mistake as here you play Bxf2+!! 5.Kxf2 and you go Ng4+ 6.Ke1 Qxg5 and here black has a 2.1 advantage and a 75% win rate as the white king is way to exposed.
Thank you for reading this blog,I hoped it helped! In the future i will look to post more blogs about these openings in a much greater depth, so stay tuned. And don’t forget to follow my account other here @NoahdeAlwis .
