The Scandinavian defense with Qxd5 (opposed to the gambit lines) is not very popular at top level chess worldwide. A well-known dutch GM even called the Scandinavian "losing" or "unsound" in a book he wrote, so they say.

However, for amateur chess players it can be an interesting opening, especially because in the Scandinavian defense a fiercely attacking white player can get a boomerang back when white overstretches.
