Thai Open - 2nd round

In the 2nd round I was playing Black versus a Chinese teenager with 1910 Elo rating, a full 400 points lower than myself. However, for younger players the ratings often lag behind their actual playing strength. This is especially so if a player does not get a lot of chances to play internationally. In fact, my opponent seemed to be a perfect illustration for that rule of thumb, as he was coming off a victory over 2300 FM in the first round. So I treaded cautiosly... perhaps even too cautiously!

Of course, I was rather disappointed with missing my chances, but it was only the second round and so I was optimistic that my play would improve as I get deeper into the tournament...
