Positioning Your Pieces Part 1
Today, I'm going to show you how to use your pieces!
Let's get started!
The Opening:
In the opening, or beginning of the game, we want to use most of our pieces (the center pawns, knights, and bishops) to control the center. That means want to make sure that our pieces are either aiming at the center, or on a center square. The squares e5, e4, d5, and d4 are all center squares. Make sure your king gets castled quickly for king safety! You also want your position to look like this (if your opponent doesn't stop you):
Make sure your pieces go to those squares and you'll be on your way to victory!

The Middle-Game:
In the middle-game, you should try to start breaking down your opponent's castle. Start attacking! You also have to make sure that some of your pieces are around your castled king to defend. And, you need to think about every move your opponent makes. You have to try to find out what they're up to, and stop their plan! If your opponent moves a piece backwards, maybe they are trying to maneuver a piece to a better square so you should try to guard to square they might be coming to. Stopping your opponent's ideas are very important! If you let them continue with their plans, you might be checkmated!
The End-Game:
In the end-game, you won't have that much pieces. You can use some checkmating patterns to try to checkmate your opponent! You also need to try to get your king into the game so that if you have a pawn, you can promote it!
