@Martin_Stahl -- I think you might underestimate what its like as a lay User to have to sort through and understand the number of changes made on a daily basis. Therefore, DOCUMENT them.
Feedback: I counted 14 of the same message that "such and such match has started!!" .. 14 copies of the same message in my messages. All sent at the same time.
Well that's just evidence of the alarming pace of change on this site, and those who are disrupted by that change (at least a good number) are those who pay for it. We are entitled to therefore ask for pointers
@Equiliser -- I get the red-banner of "resource not found" often. Sometimes, its just a blank red banner with a 'x' to close it off. Usually a 'reload' (CTRL+R) will clear it up.
Yes. We will have questions or concerns. That's the point of "Feedback". But at least we can SEE what's changed and possibly be informed as to 'Why' without being left in vast space between stars wondering 'what-the-thunder' just happened.
It would add ~10-30 minutes for someone to sort out the items, and summarize them into bullet-points in a specific forum Users could be alerted to (that a change is coming).
@Martin_Stahl -- Bug corrections, Changes in the UI, new functions that users have access to (or no longer have access to), these are not difficult to coalesce into a forum post. I guarantee you, JD does not do this without documenting this is his or Dev Team's own log, somewhere. When @JDCannon is about to commit (because he has decided its OK to do so), just before or about the same time, Copy-Paste those items from the commit log is all he or someone on his staff needs to do.
Also, developers work on what is decided with other staff, including project managers and product teams. They have input, certainly, but don't just do whatever they decide to do.
@Spacebux, I'm mainly offering my viewpoint and why I think it unlikely. Staff could decide differently, though, it's would be a pretty complex endeavor. It would take someone on staff with sufficient time and a good overview of all changes to do.
Martin knows that for me for many years he has been the most respected staff member. I suspect although he passes our views on it is higher up the chain where they are ignored - and/or the "developers" are poorly managed and allowed to do what they want, rather than what we want
Martin (and the rest of the Chess.com team and community): We thank you and others on Chess.com for all you do. We do not mean to sound like we are unappreciative. We just wish to see things addressed. We realize it may take time. Again, we thank you all for all that you do!🤗💞
@Martin_Stahl -- "Would be confusing" is an excuse. A lot of the changes as is, are confusing to the lay users like me. It takes us hours ~ days or longer to unravel the mysterious changes we suddenly get thrown at us. You are over-complicating the "Why We Can't Have Nice Things" argument. Just post a user-orientated release log. You have more than enough time to counter Feedback from users here; why not siphon off a chunk of that time to Forum-up release notes for us?
I think with the way things work, it would be confusing. As mentioned, some features may only release for a small subset of users, for a while and slowly increase until it's released to everyone. If something is said prior to full release, members following it would wonder where the update is and might report a bug. If they wait until full release, it doesn't help those that had it early. Some changes may never get fully released.
I don't think anyone is asking for every change - but major changes affecting the user's use of the system as @Spacebux has said, are usually offered to help the customer by other sites, as a mark of good customer service. Even if it is searchable when the user has a problem would be beneficial and save bug reports too
