Hi all, new version is out with many little fixes and two updates. The Login screen has been tweaked to be a little more friendly -just tap "Enter" after entering username and password to advance to next field, and login respectively. Terry suggested the analysis screen "online" (back) button is too small, and to make the entire "Analysis" bar line clickable instead. Great idea - and implemented. Until the app supports more resolutions, I'm still not keen to add it to self service download. So please contact me via email if you'd like a copy of this update: clintonwmoore@gmail.com cheers,Clinton.
It's raw, it's a little bit ugly, but it's here and thoroughly lovable. v0.1 Chess.com for Windows Mobile. What's in: CAB file based installs (installs to your games folder in the start menu) Online standard games All in game actions and a fully functional analysis screen Proven to work on Samsung Omnia II and HTC HD2 handsets running Windows Mobile 6.x @ 480*800 resolution. What's not (in current order of priorities): A pretty splash screen - if it looks like nothing is happening when you first start the app, then just wait. It's connecting to chess.com and having a little chat. Chess.com background for the splash screen will also be used for the Home screen and Games List screen. In fact, most of the early screens (login, home, game lists) are pretty clunky and need work. offline caching. This actually is written, and works - but a little too raw for my liking so removed from this release. Will be aiming to replicate the iPhone prettyness in the next release. password obfuscation - yes, I store your password in the program directory of your device in *gasp* free text. "Logout" to clear it. other things on the TODO list in no particular order: Chess 960 (currently supported except castling - so I've disabled it for now) in game chat move animation and drag and drop of pieces handset based new user registration handset based challenging, seeks, acceptances, new games etc tactics training play against computer videos - may need a diamond upgrade for this (is that a hint? ) in game notes - not currently supported by the API (another hint??) - a regular wish-list item from my iPhone chess.com user friends. other phone types with resolutions apart from 480*800 - by request! crisper graphics for buttons, icons button feedback - visual and tactile. Settings, settings and settings. Board colours, piece graphics, coordinates. much much more All feedback greatly appreciated: Bugs, priority suggestions, features. Cheers,Clinton.
Minor update. As promised, the app now supports the ability to navigate through your full active game list (rather than just display the first five games) Knowing that most beta-testers do not play that many games, I won't distribute this update unsolicited. If you'd like a copy, drop me a line to my email (clintonwmoore@gmail.com) and I'll send it to you. Cheers,Clinton (list used in screenshot lifted from lawtels game list some months ago)

OK, so that was a long gap, but can I assure you - what's been developed for this new version was really, really hard! Not that I want to set unrealistic expectations. It really doesn't look massively different. Key inclusions for v0.2 Defect Fixes: defects #1, #2, #5 included Refresh and Notification: This was the hard stuff, which necessitated rewrites of large swaths of code. The app will currently (hardcoded, pref settings coming soon) check for game updates every two minutes. The iPhone uses push functionality that takes about 20 secs which winmo doesn't support, so in the interests of restrained internet access and battery consumption I felt two minutes was a good starting point. Windows notifications are raised if an opponent has made a move. Offline caching: This was actually incorporated in the POC, but so ugly that it was excluded from the first release. Having lunch with a colleague a week ago in an upstairs, windowless restaurant in chinatown, I watched with great amusement as he spent the entire hour shaking his iphone with frustration. He wanted to show me a chess game he was playing but due to the lack of 3G coverage in this particular room he couldn't. With the winmo app, if for whatever reason you are without coverage, the phone will allow you to look at the last known state of the game complete with analysis mode (assuming you have previously loaded the game on the phone, and not logged out since). This is great if your phone is in flight mode, or you're in a non-3G/GPRS coverage area (country drives, elevators, restrooms and top floor, windowless restaurants in chinatown come to mind). Other: some general improvements in look and feel - new and improved splash screens. Excluded: game list navigation (sorry Tel). This will be in the next release, which will come a lot sooner than this one took. Warning: This willhave defects. I'm beta-testing it myself and will be trying to get most of the wrinkles out in time for the next release. Distribution: I will send this directly to all current beta-testers. Given that that app still doesn't support older models of windows mobile phones, I'm reticent to make it available for self service download just yet. Feedback and suggestions always welcome - either here, or via email. Thanks,Clinton.

Hey,I like the general feel of the app. Smooth and quite fast for a beta. General look is good, too, though obviously needs touching up a little.Comparing it to the iPhone app (my turns has it next to me right now), it has a red number symbol on the app's picture with a number inside when an opponent has made a move. Also, his phone updated roughly 10 seconds after i made my move via your app. I'm still waiting for his move to come through on ny phone - having typed this mail on my phone in the meantime. The only way it updates, seemingly, is to crash it via task mgr and then restart it.The iphone app also has a tournaments and stats page. I guess you know of these anyhow?Ps: the iPhone seems to update every 20 seconds or so.
Terry (LawTel) has discovered an interesting problem. He exclusively uses facebook to access chess.com, and so the API is throwing login errors when he tries to connect. Specifically, it says he needs to setup a password. Anyone know how to setup a password when you already have an existing account via facebook? anybody? erik? bueller? bueller?
yes, it had to happen. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Terry (lawtel) we've discovered our first defect. If you have more than 20 active, standard games - the app will fail to start up. Will get a new release out overnight (australian time) if I can. Many thanks tel...
