Shogi-Kin:move as a king,but can't backwards diagonally.This helps a Giveaway Hill when the creator puts more kings but always makes a bug(any kings,not only royals can win by KoTH,i don't know whether it's a bug or not) Xiangqi-Cannon: move as a rook and captures 1 piece behind another piece.This allows the grasshopper can move faster. Kint-knight: a Kint-knight moves as a knight and captures as a king.This allows the knight more strategic and powerful.(needs a new name!) Deserter: a pawn moves and captures backward,promotes at your opponent's promotion line.Not very useful,but it might be fun. Mirror: combines wazir and camel.(like a bishop who changes it's colour.) Xiangqi-soldier: moves and captures forward only.When moved into half of the board,the Xiangqi-soldier can move sideways.Can't promote. Butterfly: combines Xiangqi-Cannon and ferz.(rook+grasshopper when capture+king.) Shogi-zhongren: a pawn moves and captures either forward or backward,but cannot move or capture diagonally.This allows less draw in a game.

Bug: When it submit a variant on VW, this happens: See the "Unknow error" at the bottom? It's not allowing me to submit. Anyone have the same issue?

The end of the year is near, and we at the Custom Variants club are celebrating with a weeklong holiday-themed Wheel of Fortune arena (which can be found in the arena tab) starting on December 22nd at 0 UTC! ⛄🎉 To make this extra special, we will be giving out 1-month diamond memberships to the top 3 finishers in the arena!(To prevent abuse, accounts must have been made before December 13th in order to be eligible for a prize) As some of you may have already guessed from discussions on the server, this year, we will be featuring WoF: Treehouse Battle by @chye3mc, one of our most talented variant creators in this club who has graciously allowed us to use his variant for this event! This is a modified version of the variant 'New Years Nonsense 2023' by @qilp. I've repurposed the original 2023 New Year's Nonsense chess variant for 2025. The only change is replacing the '3' from 2023 with a '5' for 2025. It was unfortunate that there wasn't a New Year's Nonsense tournament in 2024, so I'm hoping @ChessMasterGS will consider using this variant for next year. If chosen, could you make it another week-long tournament with membership prizes? Also, if used, please don’t credit me, credit the person who made the original version. Please leave a comment if you are interested, and what variants you would like to see in the tournament. This tournament will only be made if at least 20 people are interested in it. Just leave a comment for suggestions, questions, etc.  You do not have to play everything in the tournament, only the ones you are competent at. If you only play 1 variant, your scores from the variants you did play on will be multiplied by 2. If you play 2, your scores will be multiplied by 1.25. Playing 3 or 4 variants will not have any amplifiers being applied. There is planned be 4 variants that will be featured in this tournament, Acheron WILL be one of them, and there will be a really good chance Chaturdrez will be another. The others will solely be decided by voting. This tournament is meant to give shoutouts to unpopular variants, thus please be genuine about your voting. The variant you vote may not be your own variant, unless you thoroughly explain why your variant deserves better popularity than what it currently proclaims. I will confirm it using BN1208's spreadsheet. The scoring will be as follows: In 2P Variants: Wins are 3 points Draws are 1 point Losses will be tallied as 0 Matches will be played a in best of 3 if the players decide to play in a blitz time control, and a single game if players decide to play on a rapid time control. This is fully up to the players to decide Rapid time controls selected may not be any slower than 10|0 Blitz time controls selected may not be any slower than 4|3 In 4P variants (if we do get them): 1st place will be 3 points 2nd place will be 2 points 3rd place will be 1 point 4th place will be 0 points If one decides to abort a game (less than 5 moves), the whole game will need to be replayed. Repeated abort offenses will lead to a ban in this tournament.  The players you will play against will be 7 random opponents in the timezone you select in the poll below, and this will be subject to change depending on interest. You will play 7 games in 4P variants, selected using a random wheel. You may ask for a reroll, if at least 4 of your opponents have either 200 or higher composed or pure rating of that respective variant. Teams variants will be decided by vote to be played in Self-Partner or not.  There will be 4 timezones play will be available in. There will be a link towards the poll in the club, where this tournament is organized. So, now, what will be the prizes? This tournament is planned to have: 1 month Diamond membership for 1st place 1 month Platinum for 2nd place 1 month Gold for 3rd place The amount of Platinum and Gold could potentially increase, depending on interest. So this is how you do it: Start with a position like this: (Pawn is there so black won't get stalemated) Then, move the knight and bishop out of the way, and use your grasshopper royal to jump over the queen. At the same time, you castle since you move 2 squares to the rook, so the pieces will combine. When I tried using at first, it showed rook moves. So when I moved it, the rook moved to the square I selected, thus separating the pieces. But after that, when I clicked on the queen, it couldn't move at all.

Unequal Strategies: This was inspired by Spartan Chess, and the bi pawns were originally berolinas. Sharp Incantation: When I was making this, I did not know hot to adjust the spell time and cooldown, so I made the variant fit with it. The Golden Rain Failed: My only autodecline so far, and hopefully ever. Land of Queens: The reason this looks so bland is that I tried many approaches and this worked out best. Box of Combat: 20 check was added as one of the last changes, and throughout it's whole drafting, there was never an orthogonal piece. Divergence #1: Last few changes were made without sufficient testing in an imbalance, causing red to be MUCH better. Windmill: This is the submission with the fewest pieces per side. Nullscapes: When whe bug of piece rendering was still present, chye suggested to name it Crimson Planet. (lol) The Caravan: This took 12 hours to make, turned out to be bad. Armageddon: This is the NCV with the fewest changes from the initial draft, with the first draft having the exact same piece composition, but different locations. Gamerules were quite similar too. Catastrophe: One of the testing games that had NoWellOkay were done in testing time, so there were 8 observers at the end. Crimson Planet: This one, out of the 3 Golden Rain revision I have made is the most Nyutix approved.  Military: When this was almost autodeclined, I swore I would never make a wof every again, but guess what! Hourglass: I made this just after Silent Clubstep got accepted, in the thinking of I should start making a lot of drafts, because I always wanted to beat chye in the amount of NCV's I have. Cavalry Charge: I made this position as a joke, alongside the main project Hourglass. Divergence: The name was inspired by the book Divergent. I never finished the book. Barricade (Old): I never tested if hill rush works. Barricade: Here starts my lack of skill in determining the appropriate tc's for wofs. Beehive: I don't think anyone realized this, but this name connects to the previous name, Hexagon Force. Also there is a single queen per 'hive'.

Italics indicates a variant not eligible for the Platinum Variant vote, e.g., Golden WoFs. Asterisks (*) denote a variant which was predetermined by the Custom Games Admin team. ARENA FORMAT Most Golden Variant arenas are voted on by the community in a monthly plurality or ranked-choice vote, although some may be pre-determined by the Custom Games Admins. Usually, these arenas will be 72 hours long, or 3 full days. Sometimes, there may be a "Golden Variant All Week" arena, featuring the newest accepted NCVs, or "Golden Fortune"/"Golden WoF" arenas; in those cases, arenas will be 168 hours long, or 7 days. Platinum Variant selections are decided every quarter year, voted upon out of the top 5 played (based on their arena performance in terms of games and players) Golden Variants of that quarter cycle in a winner-takes-all vote. These arenas are also 168 hours long, and also grant a membership prize (usually 1 month of diamond/platinum/gold) to the top 3 finishers. The standard time control for any arena is generally 5|2, although 3|2 and 1|2 may be used for variants which work better with a shorter time control (e.g., Minihouse, Amazon Jungle, etc.). On the contrary, Wheel of Fortune arenas (even "Golden Fortune") will always use the time control suggested by the creator during submission or similar.
