It is called the Mortar, if any of you watch chesssescape on YouTube you probably know what it is. The Mortar is a combination of Queen, Knight, and Camel

my suggestion is wildqueen-rider which can capture pieces instantly that are under attack(moves like a knight-rider+camel-rider+queen)

How about the community making an unofficial club, where only experienced creators/players can get in? Currently, a plethora of positions are flooding the workshop thread, disabling most positions to get proper feedback, although joining this club must also mean you agree to give feedback to the normal workshop forum. What I am currently planning to do about this future club is to have a general place to chat, and a workshop thread where you get to see sophisticated positions and give/receive proper feedback. I will not be the owner, but rather someone that has confidence is club leading, or just has the most achievements. I am thinking to make a clear criteria of getting to be a member in this club, and it will roughly be as follows, you may only need to qualify on some of these. . . Have atleast 2 variants that had a very long UR time (other than bugs, >2 months), which does not include time made by the lack of testing.  Have atleast 1 accepted NCV Have atleast 2 accepted WoF's (1 4PC WoF will count as 2 here) Have ≥10 submissions that are atleast moderate quality (I may decide this, without bias.) Able to give good constructive criticism Have ≥2 Good submissions (I may decide this, without bias.) Get approval from ≥3 Club members for someone to join. . So, that is how you may quality as a good creator, and you only have to apply in some of those. Now, I will tell the rough criteria to join as a good player. . . Win against @imchesspro0930 in a best of 5 in your desired variant. This variant may only be in the Extra section, 2.5/2.5's will count as a win for you. You may not ask to play Villagers Chess, if you do not have any other special achievements. Have a rating of ≥1900 in any pure/composite variant, excluding one's in most popular. Have a rating of ≥2150 in any variant. Pass a test I will give. This test will be a single imbalanced position, and you need to persuade me about which side is better, with evidence.  . . Again, this is the same deal as last time, you just need to pass in 1 of these! I want to hear your thoughts regarding this type of club.

This is my take on making a shogi board. turned out pretty good I'm hoping it becomes a variant. Since there are obvious limitations and inaccuracy's to this formula I've made I had problems with the pawns promoting to king once they got to the mid field area so I disabled promotions-to fix this I used a crazyhouse-ruleset as a solution so it's pretty easy to figure out. Say hello to my friends in Japan will you.

TL;DR, added by a CGA: Two-player (2P) variants are slowly becoming more popular than four-player (4P) variants, both in terms of games played and new variant creation. 4P variants are harder to create and test than 2P variants, yet they are less worthwhile in the end. Many recently accepted 4P variants are rarely played in practice, compared to many of the most recently accepted 2P variants.  Some background info that you might need about myself, and Variants. The TL;DR is so brutal yet so accurate, I don't know what to say. CGA Note: Indeed, it is. I have an old account that I would rather not share with, as it contains my personal info, though it is about 2~3 years back from now. I also made variants, not for acception but just for my fun. Though this imchesspro0930 account was still used before the 'old' account. At that time, Variants had more popularity than what it claims now, so 4PC seeks were actually practical, and resignations did not happen as often, making it easier to test and play 4PC variants, though nowadays, a game of ANY FFA Variant with >2 competant players is impossible with randoms, and when I want to play something like Sergeants Laboratory, I get the game starting sound when I completely forgot aboout the seek. If it is not something like Surprise Attack or Chaturdrez, both are awesome FFA variants, you can sleep 8 hours with a seek still ongoing. Now, why does this matter? See, There has only been 9 NCV FFA submissions (not counting revisions, which makes the number go up to 11) in the past 6 months. The only one that got accepted in Sparks of Hope by @2bHNST. In contrast, there were a total of 120 NCV submissions at the same time period, and 6 2P Variants were accepted after Sparks of Hope, and none of Teams.  The difficulty of making and testing 4P Variants, whether FFA or Teams is significantly harder than making 2P Variants for acception. in 4P, you have to test if teaming is encouraged, what happens if one player goes absent, what happens when not all players are competant, etc. None of which are needed to be tested in 2PC, even if queues could be filled up instantly. Teams, on the other hand has less that needs to be tested, but the initial difficulty increases as it introduced mechanics like tempo, which is more apparent in Teams. but are queues easy to fill up? No! You need to have 1 friend that is willing to test your variant, and even then it takes minutes.  Let's say that you pulled a 2bHNST and got some FFA creations of yours accepted. Well, will it ever be played? No! I am very sporadic about my online schedule in the long term, but I never even saw a seek on some things like BlindGold, or Unison (apart from NoWellOkay's introduction to the variant), and those seeks rarely get into games. So, every part of making 4PC Variants has worse circumstances than making 2P Variants, as it is harder and less rewarding.  Now you may ask, why is this a problem? You see, this is an ongoing problem, and I am partially responsible for it. Recent submission threads are filled with 2PC Variants, and the quality of 2PC Variants are much higher than 4PC respectively. This is slowly but surely unbalancing the number of 2PC Variants to 4PC Variants. When I mainly played variants with my old account, they had similar amounts in each category, but there is a surplus of 2P Variants nowadays, and some of them are really not that fun, or has better alternatives. This is fading away one of the biggest merits of Variants in chess.com, the >2 player customs! This trend is slowly making 4PC an extraneous feature as a whole, as very select people play most of these variants, and sometimes it's the creator whose making these seeks, making this server revolve around it's 2P Variants, further motivating creators to make 2P Variants. How do we solve this? There are 3 big ways this may be solved, and those are by either increasing popularity of the Variants server as a whole, or cutting 2P Variants, essentially making a Merge event, but only on 2P Variants. The first one is some company stuff, and I would not try to talk in a field I have no knowledge about, although Variants as a whole is guaranteed to gain popularity if chess influencers decide to play it. The second is more viable and is something that can be done by our own hands, but the first option is more preferrable. The final one is to implement varying difficulties of bots you can play 4P Variants with, to resolve the main reason why people avoid playing 4P Variants, waiting time. I wish a favorable solution to this will come soon in the future, as if this is not solved Variants will tilt in a way that is not favorable by anyone. One last thing, 4PC WoF's does not have a SINGLE game played in an arena rotation (Data taken from Ludo by @stupnik_2_0 ), which made >95% of WoF submissions 2P Variants, which I also bear responsibility with.
So I played chye's variant Don't Promote, and it had a royal brick. How do I put a royal brick into my variant?
Found this in a thrift shop! Can easily build a 4p or even 8p board with these pieces.

Hi! This is another 2025 challenge. And like many of the other ones, it is closely related to Pocket Chess. Thus the "Right Square Promotion" or RSP challenge Quick Reveiw. Create a variant where there is only one or two promotion squares to achive checkmate. Rules. 1. Must be a relevant position. 2. Promotion must be one of the key ways to win, if not the only way. 3. Goal of promotion must be checkmate or capturing a piece to claim win. (No "I promoted to a camel to get a camel") 4. Variants that have 2 promotion squares to achive checkmate will count. 5. Variants with three promotion squares don't count. Important Notes. - it can be a WoF or NCV. - Promotion has to be one of the main ways to win, but variants where promotion is not the only way to win will count. Submissions where the challenge is completed. 1. Delicate Giant by @Nyutixbrother. Link: https://variants.world/posts/912 {Status=UR} Updates will be carried out by user request. Otherwise, updates will be weekly or monthly depending on if i have anything interveining with the update schedule. Next Update will be on Feb 11th-Feb 12th Well, that's it for today. Bye!

Can chess.com enable players and variant creators to create custom scripts for the game? Like "Custom promotion" or "Allowed Area" or new pieces or stuff. Chess.com doesn't provide such things but it should be easy to implement with custom scripts.
Sup guys, it's VishTheFish771! Today I will be saying my favorite records of the year for the people of this club! Let's begin with:1. Best First Submittion of the Year goes to- @brasterze (Acheron) Acheron was an excellent submittion by Brasterze and was their first submittion as well! I remember seeing a message by ChessmasterGS which said "This is by far the best first submittion in a long time." GG!Runner up- VishTheFish771 (Well of Fate)Well I personally feel so, but if you disagree, mention in the comments!2. Best advice for variants goes to- @NoWellOkay NWO has definitely been giving out a lot of advice, especially recently. His detailed comments in the workshop thread probably made some auto declines just declines and some declines acceptions!Runner up- @imchesspro0930 Yes Andrew definitely deserves runner up for this. Your advice has been really good! Pretty helpful for Well of Fate as well 3.Best variant submitter goes to- @chye3mc Honestly there were so many good submitters this year but this has to go to Chye. Why? Well other than getting an NCV accepted (seargent's checkers II) it takes huge dedication to submit 30 lobotomy variants and get them all declined. Also don't forget all of his other submittions! and the most important part- RANDOM PIECES JUMPSCARE!Runner up- @imchesspro0930Yes this guys submitting streak was actually crazy, and today's acception of both beehive and barricade really proves that he's a talented creator4. Best new member to the club- @vishthefish771  (Definition of new member- joined this year) I think that I've been doing pretty well in this communtiy? I only hope that you guys agree as well! Runner up- @imchesspro09301. Joined on just march2.Has submitted like 9 variants3. Has a cool reputation in the club4. Did I mention that 2 of his WoFs got accepted? (at this point I should probably make him first place)You know what? Let me replace that-❌Runner up❌ 1st place (In tie with VishTheFish771 (Maybe a bit better)) 5.Overall MVP of the year- @imchesspro0930Yes guys honestly if anyone in the club deserves this it's him. I think I've explained it pretty much everywhere in this forum. Can we have a standing ovation for Andrew please? 6.Best Overall Creator- @2bhnstWell this guy definitely deserves mention for 4 accepted NCVs!?!??! That's more NCVs then I'll probably ever submit! Also Lobotomy Runway isn't bad at all.Runner up- I have no idea who to put here, give me an idea 7. Best Super Admin- Tie between @ChessmasterGS and @QilpYes it's a 2 way tie. What's that I hear? There's only 2 super admins? Well, it's still a two way tie. Excellent job this year you guys! 8. Best New Variant - Explosive Magic by @BN1208 - I really really REALLY love playing this. As an atomic main (and bad at spell chess, but I like it) I really love Atomic Spell Chess and fairy pieces combo! Runner Up: Saturns Rings by @asthebird -We all knew @asthebird would eventually get a mention! Ends Meet is actually a cool and fun variant, and I really like the low amount of gameruales and its uniqueness. 9. Best New Wof - Rowchess by @chye3mc - It's a trend setter, what can I say! Runner-Up - Treehouse battle by @chye3mc and barricade by @imchesspro0930 - FESTIVE FORTUNE 2024!!!!! -Also I love atomic so yeah Random achievements- Most memorable catchphrase- "Random pieces/Wisconcin Jumpscare!" ~@Chye3mc(Thanks to Chye I can now pronounce Wisconsin properly!)Runner up- "Shrink the board" ~@Imchesspro0930(Just kidding, Andrew!)Runner up 2- "egherski" ~@Chessmastergs(What does it even mean?)Coolest Admin- I probably shouldn't put anything here. Coolest Coordinator- We all know who, right?Worst Submittion of the year- Royal Run I need more ideas, people. Any other records?

So,archbishop, general or dragon bishops are a combination of two or more pieces. But why do they need their own letters? We can name archbishop to BN,or dragon bishop BU. Using two letters can actually free these letters:A(NQ)E(NR)H(NB)J(II)L(CC)M(NK)O(NN)T(SS)V(NC)Y(SI)Z(SSII,also TJ)Δ(BU). or if let rook as a wazir-rider,we can free them too:B(FF)K(FW)R(WW)Q(FFWW,also KK,also BR).

In Fairy Chess, archbishops are also called unicorns (idk why) They look like a knight with a tusk coming out of their head. I would really appreciate if, just like you have a setting to change rooks to chariots or sailboats, there also being a setting to change archbishops to unicorns.

In chess,we know that pawns can promote. But have you played shogi before?银将(Silver),飞車(Rook),角行(Bishop),香車(maybe "go-ahead" i dont know how to read it lol)and so many other piece can promote, not just pawns. So, can we promote knights, bishops and alfils or amazons in chess.com?(like adding a line of ♚8th=♛,which means the king can promote to a queen on the 8th rank) it does a long line of searching all the pieces.so another suggestion:can we add promotion grids only for promote(not all the grids on the rank),or "demote" the pawn when they leave the promotion rank?

Hi, I am Victor, better known as the MangoVendedor, todday I want to share with everyone a chess variant that I've been working in this last year. It is called "WAR OF THE HILL" I wave a full word document talking about the rules and the pieces. Here is it Mountain War Rules and Facts Object of the Game Capture the enemy Mountain and protect your own. You can also win if you are the last one standing with a piece (like a 'Civilian'), depending on the end conditions. The grey player, who controls the 'Hybrid', has special rules for winning. Number of Players 2-3 players. White (Player 1), Black (Player 2). Grey (Player 3, optional) controls a special piece: Hybrid. (Grey pieces have no other pieces except the Hybrid) Board and Starting Position A standard 8x8 chess board is used. The main pieces are: Mountain: The center of your defense. Ranger: Moves like a chess king. Hunter: Moves like a chess queen. Shadow: Moves like a chess bishop and captures like in Checkers. Guardian: A hybrid piece between a chess knight and a chess rook. Moose: Moves like a chess rook and captures like in Checkers. Civilian: Similar to a pawn, but can move backwards. Spirit: Moves exactly like a Civilian, but has a different mechanic and can move sideways one square per turn (The Spirit cannot capture pieces that are next to it unless a disappearing capture is made). Note: The Moose and Shadow can directly capture a piece if the piece to be captured is on the edge of the board, but if the piece to be captured has its back square guarded by another piece, it cannot be captured.     Starting Locations The Mountain: White may place his Mountain on any square in rows 1-4. Black may place his Mountain on any square in rows 5-8. Hunter: d1 for White and d8 for Black. Ranger: e1 for White and e8 for Black. Shadow: b1 and g1 for White; b8 and g8 for Black. Moose: a1, h1 for White; a8, h8 for Black. Warden: e4 for White; e5 for Black. Civilians: Same locations as pawns (a2 through h2 for White and a7 through h7 for Black (The only squares where civilians are not initially placed are e2 and e7)). Spirit: e2 for White and e7 for Black. Hybrid (if playing with Gray): on h5. Summary of movement and capture of each piece Mountain: The Mountain must move on the first move, white pieces must place their mountain on a square in rows 1 to 4 and black pieces on a square in rows 8 to 5. After that, the Mountain does not move as it is the target to defend and capture. Civilians: Like a pawn (1 step forward, diagonal to capture), but can move back. Spirit: Moves like a Civilian, but has a different mechanic when moving up and can go sideways one square per turn. Shadow: Moves like a bishop, but captures by jumping like in Checkers, but can only make one capture per turn. Can jump over allied pieces, but only to the next square, not beyond. Guardian: Moves like a knight, but also 2 squares like a rook. Cannot capture the other 'Guardian'. Ranger: Like a king (1 square in any direction). Hunter: Like a queen. After capturing, make a second mandatory move. Moose: Like a rook, but captures like in 'Checkers' but can only make one capture per turn. May push the Hybrid when attempting to capture it. Hybrid: Moves to any free square on the board, but only captures adjacent 'Civilians'. No piece can capture the Hybrid. Special Rules Guardian Protection: If any piece is adjacent to the Guardian, it cannot be captured until the Guardian is captured first. Special Capture by the Ranger: If the Ranger is adjacent to 'The Mountain' and an enemy piece is also adjacent, the Ranger can capture the enemy piece without restrictions, but after making this special capture the Ranger will have to take a breather, meaning he cannot make this special capture in the next move, but after he has taken the 1-move breather he can capture again in this special way. Second Move by the Hunter: After capturing, he must make a second mandatory move, meaning that after capturing a piece you can make a second move, but it must be done with the Hunter. Moose and Hybrid: Moose can push the Hybrid, even if it doesn't capture it, but if the Hybrid is on the edge of the board the Moose can't push it, that is to say if the Hybrid is on, say, the left edge, if the Moose tries to push it to the left, the Hybrid won't be pushed, but if it's pushed up, it will be pushed, and if it's on the top edge, if we try to push it to the top side, we won't be able to, but we can if we push it to, say, the left. Moose and Ranger: These are the only two pieces that can't capture the enemy mountain. Capturing the Mountain: If you want to capture the enemy mountain, one of your pieces (as long as it's not the Moose or the Ranger) must be adjacent to the enemy mountain. Civilian Promotion: If a civilian reaches the last row (for white, row 8 and for black, row 1) the civilian can become one of some pieces, but not all of them. Spirit Ascendance: Unlike the Civilian, this one can ascend to all the pieces. Capture of Disappearance: If an enemy Civilian or Spirit moves two steps and lands next to our Spirit, a move very similar to the capture in passing “En Passant” is made, but unlike the Capture in passing, instead of capturing diagonally, it is captured from the side. Tokens that a Civilian can Promote: Hunter Guardian Ranger Tokens that a Civilian cannot Promote: Moose Shadow Mountain Civilian Hybrid Pieces that the Spirit can Promote: Hunter Guardian Ranger Moose Shadow Pieces that the Spirit cannot Promote: Mountain Civilian Hybrid Spirit   Turn order: 1.      White. 2.      Black. 3.      Gray (with the Hybrid). Victory conditions White or Black win if: They capture the enemy 'Mountain'. They are the last to have a relevant piece, while the opponent only has their Mountain, but if the last piece is a Civilian and the hybrid is being played, the hybrid wins. There is also a victory by surrendering. If the opponent runs out of time. Gray (Hybrid): They only win if the Hybrid is the last piece on the board. . Draw In this variant there are no DRAWS, every position that can be decleared a draw is winning for grey. Game Notation Each piece has a special notation to highlight it: ·         Moose = Mo ·         Shadow = S ·         Hunter = H ·         Ranger = R ·         Guardian = G ·         Mountain = M ·         Spirit: So ·         Hybrid = Hy ·         Capture is indicated with an 'x'. Example: Moxa2 indicates that 'The Moose' captures a piece at a2, with the Civilian we just write for example axb5 this means that the Civilian in the "a" column captures a piece at b5. (As the Moose and the Shadow capture like in Checkers, when a piece is captured with these two pieces mentioned above, we place the square where the captured piece was located, meaning that in the example, the Moose is not on a2, but on a1, but the only way we can say Moxa1 and the Moose is on a1 is if the captured piece is on the edge of the board where it is possible to capture it directly.) ·         Also when threatening to capture the enemy mountain by placing one of our pieces adjacent to the enemy mountain we write for example “Sg7-” the minus sign at the end means that we threaten the enemy mountain, but you cannot do something like “Mog8-” since the Moose cannot capture the enemy mountain, the same for the Ranger, meaning it is not legal to say “Rg8-”, in case the Mountain is attacked by a Civilian we write the square to which the Civilian moved and the minus symbol at the end for example: “g7-”. ·         If we manage to capture the enemy mountain we use the term (+M), for example “S+M” S is the notation for “Shadow”, the “+” means that the Mountain has been captured and the “M” is just filler haha, but it is important to put the “M” because otherwise it would be incorrect to say “S+”, but as for the Civilian there is no notation, meaning that if we move a civilian we only say for example “a3” but we do not say “Na3”, well when capturing the mountain we use the square where the Civilian was, for example “g7+M”. ·         If we manage to get one of our civilians to the last row we can get back a lost piece, for this we use a notation that is “a8=G” the “a8” can vary for white it would be “a8” but for black it would be “a1” this means the square that the Civilian arrived at to Promote, therefore it will not necessarily be a8, it could be b8, c8, d8, etc. the “=” is used to refer to that we are going to Promote our Civilian and the “G” is the letter that we are Promoting to in this case a ranger but we can also Promote other pieces, that is, we can use the letters “G”, “R” or “H” but we cannot use “Mo”, “S”, “M” or “Hy” and we cannot Promote a Civilian either and if when Ascending we attack the enemy mountain we could say “g8=C-”. ·         If our spirit manages to reach the last row we can promote it and we use the same term that is used for the civilian only that instead of being “a8=G” it would be “Soa8=G” also we can write “Ea8=A” since the spirit can promote to any piece as long as it is not “Soa8=M” or “Soa8=H”. Note: If there are several options, for example there is a moose in a2 and one in b1, both are in different columns and both can go to square a1, so the square of origin is indicated. Example: Moaa1 means that the Moose in a2 moves to a1 and if there is a moose in b1 and another in b3, since both are in column b we cannot put Abb2 because we do not know which of the two moved, so we use, for example: Mo3b2, and if we want to move the moose in b1 we use: A1b2 the same with captures only instead of Moaa1 it would be Moaxa1, but if we capture the mountain it would only be G+M therefore when capturing the mountain this term is not used.
