There are two types of ratings - rankings in the club: λ ratings - rankings, and; ℵ ratings - rankings. λ ratings - rankings λ ratings - rankings are calculated in all Blitz, Rapid, and Classical tournaments. 1. How to calculate λ ratings Suppose player A has a λ rating of λa, and player B has a λ rating of λb. The probability of A's winning is calculated by the formula: The K-factor of A is: The K-factor of B is: The new λ rating of A is: The new λ rating of B is: with Per(A), Per(B) is the number of points that A, B respectively achieved in a match. If A wins against B, then Per(A) = 1 If A loses to B, then Per(A) = 0 If A ties B, then Per(A) = 1/2 = 0,5 Note: Per(A) + Per(B) = 1 The λ ratings is always greater or equal than 1400 ( ≥ 1400 ), so the K-factor is always in the range [20;100] 2. As you know, there are two types of ratings - rankings in the club: λ ratings - rankings and ℵ ratings - rankings. Due to a number of reasons (mainly due to rating deflation and the Owner's desire to "follow the Trend"), the calculation of the above two types of ratings has changed significantly, leading to changes in the awarding of the Club's "Title", and major changes in the leaderboard display. This article will talk clearly about those changes. I. Changes in the calculation of λ ratings - rankings 1. Changes in the rating floor According to FIDE, from January 1, 2024, the rating floor was increased from 1000 to 1400 as a way to prevent rating deflation. As a type of rating inspired by FIDE's Elo ratings, the rating floor of λ ratings will also be increased from 1000 to 1400. 2. Changes in core computational elements Suppose player A has a λ rating of λa, and player B has a λ rating of λb. The formula for calculating A's probability of winning is changed from: to: The formula to calculating A's K-factor is changed from: to: 3. Changes in the λ rankings' list of rank Due to changes in the ranking calculation method, the ranks in λ rankings have also changed quite clearly. Categories are re-arranged according to the rating range of 120, Advanced rank is re-divided from 5 Grades (from Grade 1 to Grade 5) to 2 sub-ranks: Weak Advanced and Strong Advanced, Expert rank is re-divided into 3 Grades. Master rank - the newly added class - will also be divided into 5 Levels (from Level 1 to Level 5). II. The (almost) complete change of ℵ ratings - rankings Previously, ℵ ratings were a variant of λ ratings with a Progressive style like leveling up in a video game. However, after this change, ℵ ratings will become a variant of the European Go Federation (EGF) ratings. This change will change the calculation of many factors, but ℵ ratings will still keep the same Progressive style. The ℵ rankings' list of ranks has also been changed to suit the new calculation method. The lowest rank was moved from 15-kyu to 20-kyu, the highest rank was raised from 7-dan to 9-dan, and the rating range was kept fixed at 100. III. Changes in the awarding of the Club's "Title" Club's "Title" has also been changed to match the rankings of the two ratings. The [GMaster] title was officially removed, while the [Chess Expert] title was added as compensation for the removal. The title [Master] was renamed to [Chess Master], replacing the old title [GMaster]. The title [Chess Expert] is placed under the title [Chess Master], replacing the old title [Master]. IV. Major changes in the leaderboard display The full leaderboard will only show the participants' ratings, whether they are in the club or not, or whether they have been banned by Chess.com or not. Members who have not participated in tournaments in the club will be considered [Unrated], with a λ rating of 1400 and a ℵ rating of 0.
