Last Hikaru TSM Arena before US Chess Championship. https://www.uschesschamps.com/2020-us-championships/2020-us-championship So I am white in a 3 minutes Blitz in the TSM Arena against GM Hikaru. Specifically his chess.com twich account GMHIKARUONTWICH(3068) We play a Sicilian Dragon and reach the following where Hikaru plays a less frequent move. 10..Bd7 11h4 Qa5 followed. Here I played 12Nb3! and the queen goes back to c7. Obviously a very sharp opening. lets move forward to 19th move or so The fascinating bit is that GM Hikaru didn't like his position too much and within reason as Stockfish puts white at +3.2 pawns around 19th and 20th move Here is the clip on Twich where he said " this isn't easy" and "I think I'm ok but I don't like this too much" https://clips.twitch.tv/TenderImpossiblePeanutHeyGirl Of course in the end, Black capitalizes on White making mistakes and being low on time to gradually take the advantage. in particular 33R1h5?? and 33Rxg6?? are blunders on my part and Hikaru logically scored the full point. I had less than 20 seconds at that points Here's the official link to the game on chess.com https://www.chess.com/live/game/5635827701 a tense fight. need to do better to score the full point.
At the end of a viewer arena so unfortunately the game is not in my game history. Analysis says that have advantage at the end position.

OK first game, I was black and this was far from a one sided affair. The only thing is Hikaru plays so fast. Hikaru wants to play a closed sicilian. I am not ready to go for the main lines (Nc6 and g6-Bg7) where he will probably do g3,Bg2,f4-f5 and Qe1-h4. So I switch it up and play 2..a6 !? In the position above, Hikaru plays 5d4. So he is transposing into standard sicilian, and it looks like a Kan variation, ..e6 and ..a6 except that I played b7-b5 instead of Qc7 or Nc6 (Taimanov). We are getting a sharp variation but instead of castling long, Hikaru launches an attack. Here is where I could have played a stronger move to generate my own counterplay faster than in the game. ok so I lost again. 84 accuracy versus 93. the gap is getting closer but of course things are never simple. in the same TSM Arena, I play Hikaru again, this time with White and again I lost. I cannot run accuracy at 20 Depth as I am not a premium member, but one of you guys could maybe ? at any rate, Hikaru was never once in danger in this game. This was a 3 minutes rated game with official link here : https://www.chess.com/live/game/5656096245 the first game is here :https://www.chess.com/live/game/5655846520

What's happening ? https://www.chess.com/events/2020-us-chess-championship/06-Nakamura_Hikaru-Liang_Awonder I would think Hikaru is much stronger than his opponent in rapid chess and even in classical. After 6 rounds, Hikaru has only 3 points. It's a 12 round championship, can he recover ? Did he give explanations after the games ?

Game 1: Wesley So-Nakamura 2015 Game 2: Krasenkow-Nakamura 2007 Game 3: Beliavsky-Nakamura 2009 Probably part of his best wins with Black pieces. any other game you have in mind ?

Yes I know, I am trying the impossible. Hopefully one day the chat will distract Hikaru enough to blunder and allow me to win. Hikaru during his daily Twich sessions is now doing a TSM speed run using ScrubStomping username. As he is rated 2332 currently and I am around 2310, we got paired in the 1st round. I am black and I thought I did ok in the opening a sicilian where I have the Black pieces. but you guys are the judge: Position 1 : I am playing a hedgehog type of position with bishops going to b7 and e7. Hikaru is also doing a fianchetto, playing b3 followed by Bb2. Position 2: I am still in it to win it ! I am playing in the diagram d6-d5, the thematic breakthrough. I am also targetting Bxh2+ so Hikaru is playing f3-f4 but I will take his pawn. Position 3: Tricky Hikaru has two rooks but I have the queen. This is a tricky imbalance. Position 4: Me missing a killer move after white's mistake. can you find it ? in the end Hikaru won on time. Here's the full game :

Hello everyone, I've had this question for a long time and never got around to asking it. What is the best way to learn theory for different openings? Should I download an engine or is something like chessbase better?
