Hopefully this fullfills the gap for a members only tourny - the beauty of a chess ladder is it requires less admin (I hope) and just keeps going. I am in debt to Baz, whose Ladder on Team Scotland I have used as a template...cheers Baz! As Baz says so well, a ladder is a never ending tournament purely for our members to help promote relationship within the group. If you wish to join the ladder simply post your desire to do so on this topic in the forum and you will be notified when you are added. The procedure to play a game on the ladder is listed below. LADDER RULES 1. it is only open to Kingdom of Fife members. 2 To enter players must post a message on this forum. New players begin at the bottom and work their way up. 3 Challenges can only be made to players a maximum of three spaces above your current ladder position. e.g. a player ranked 10th can challenge one ranked 7th. To post a challenge: post details of the challenge on this forum send a message to your chosen opponent send game challenge 4. The ladder is only for standard chess with random colour selection. A minimum time control of 3 days per move is expected, but this can be altered by agreement between players. 5. Normal chess.com rules apply and vacation time is permitted. 6. If the challenger wins the match, he/she will swap places with their opponent on the ladder. A draw or a win for the higher ranked player makes no change to the ladder. 7. All challenges must be accepted! If a challenge is not accepted within seven days (for whatever reason) the challenger will be awarded a win and positions will change on the ladder. 8. You can only play one ladder opponent at a time, finish your current game before issuing another challenge. 9. Winning players must post results on this forum for ladder positions to be changed. The idea of an annual league has been warmly accepted by a small number of members. The forum format is being re-drafted. The main idea at present is to have two divisions determined by grading; the bottom player from div 1 wiil be relegated to div 2 and the top player of div 2 promoted to div 1. At present we have 9 players keen to play in this competition, but we need more members to come on board to make it worth while. Keep an eye on this forum for further developments. Rather than a discussion I want folks to post their willingness to commit to play for a team(s) from our group in the upcoming Scottish League. We need at least 5 for one team and 10 for two teams.
I have been floating an idea around for a wee while amongst some members here and on other groups. The idea is a Scottish League for City/County Teams to play a season of matches and to have an eventual champion. There is a similar thing already in operation from England, but only for cities. There is an English counties League too...but don't accept Scottish teams. This group being my first group now has three sister groups; Team Dundee, Team Edinburgh and Team Glasgow. I am awaiting developments on correspondence with Aberdeen. So, I would be glad to here from anyone with ideas or views on this. regards Alan

This tournament is for Kingdom of Fife members to play a live game tournament online. We don't have the ability to use chess.com functionality to set this up, so games will have to be arranged 'manually'. We feel we could try and use the Friday night virtual chess club meetings for this purpose. Probably not every week, but maybe every other week or once a month. In order to organize this kind of event, we really would need to have members "sign up" and indicate that they are planning on attending and playing in the tournament. Games 15/10 standard chess Please sign up below if you are interested in participating in this tournament this Friday November 15th at 10 pm GMT.

Hi Fifers, The idea behind the virtual chess club is to provide a regular weekly time for members to come together and play live games. Members would also have the opportunity to follow the live games and kibitz as well as participating in post game analysis. How it might work: For example only, let's say we have our virtual chess club on Friday evenings at 10pm GMT. Members who are intersted would log into our Kingdom of Fife chat room. Once we get a game or two set up between members we could then post a link or instructions on how to find the game in the live game server. Members who are observing the game would be able to kibitz in the live game chat, and following the game, could also be invited into a post game analysis session. Anyway, that is the basics of the idea. So Fifers, is there interest in this kind of activity? What day and time would be good for you? Please post your comments as a response in this forum. Thanks!
It has come to my attention we really need to define what we are doing in our group. For us to succeed as a group we must have purpose and a target in mind. My main aim for this group was to have a home for Fife chess players; even though this is still the primary aim we have grown beyond the borders of Fife. This is the reason for the name change to "Kingdom of Fife and Friends". The membership is mainly Scots and some international players with some link (no matter how small) to Fife. A concern is ghost members; those who are on the role but remain inactive. I think we may need to tighten our membership criteria to ensure that most members are active members. Finally, I need to here from you! What do you want from your group...what should be our aims etc? If you don't want to post here feel free to message me. regards Alan

These are basic guidelines for our vote chess policy. All games are free to join and/or leave for all members. It is recommended to analyse at length first. Use the team comments option to post your personal ideas. wait for other members to contribute. When a majority consensus is agreed we vote. Members who are busy can feel free just to vote...no guilt. This can benefit us as a team/group and as individuals.

Here is a chance to help each other out by commenting on each others games. So don't be shy and post any games for group analysis.
