Setting up matches for chess.com leagues is often known as 'sending a challenge', because that's the necessary first step. The user interface for this was updated a couple of years ago, and still has a few quirks. This guide is to help you do it, showing example from the Battle of the Legions, but really applies to any TCMAC competition with appropriate adjustments.
It's advised to use a computer browser rather than a phone for these, and to use multiple tabs in your browser to be able to access the information you need as you complete the challenge form.
Preparation: Find the league and make sure you follow the forum
Find the league from the About Club page or the sidebar
Click 'follow' at the bottom of the forum thread:
Step 1: Identify the club to challenge
TCMAC admins announces 'pairings' through news posts and in the league forums. The pairings are often in the announcement post but you can always find them in the forum. Look for the link 'PAIRINGS' and click it (open in a new tab).
This will take you to a post like this
Locate your team and the opponent, you can click on the opposing team's name to get to that club's home page.
Note your team may be on the left or the right side, either side can issue challenges. It's both team's responsibility to ensure matches are set up correctly.
Step 2: Open challenge form
Find the 'Challenge' button on the homepage of the club you are challenging. We are going to use 'Europe National Team' as an example.
Click on the grey 'Challenge' button and another form pops up - you need to choose the type of challenge
For most TCMAC leagues, the correct challenge type is 'Daily Match'. For the Byzantium VC league only, choose 'Vote Chess'.
Once you've selected the challenge type, click on the green 'Challenge' button
Step 3: Confirm the challenge clubs
A big form labelled 'Tournaments' and 'New Club Daily Match' should pop-up, similar to this
Firstly, choose your own club that's issuing the challenge in the first form 'Club'. (shown 'Hotel California' in the image above). If you are admin in multiple clubs, the wrong club could be shown here.
Secondly, verify the 'Club to Challenge' is the club you intended to challenge, according to the pairings.
Step 4: Fill out the challenge details
Here's where it's useful to have multiple tabs. The details of the parameters for this challenge form can be found in the league forum. On another tab, click on the 'parameters' link provided.
The match parameters are found in a post similar to this. Keep this open in a separate tabFor each of the items identified in the parameters post, fill out the values specified in the Challenge form. The start date is shown in the Calendar or also in the challenge announcement
TCMAC matches all start at 12:00 CET (Rome/UTC+1) or UTC+2 in summer time. A difference of an hour or two is not that important for TCMAC. Adjust for your own timezone.
The image below shows the match name filled out according to the parameters (put your own team name first), and the date/time filled out according to the calendar.
Scroll down and fill out the other parameters of the form carefully, referring to the league parameters in your other tab.
Players per club, Game type (Standard or Chess 960), Days per Move and Maximum Rating will all vary by TCMAC league. Minimum Games is always 10 for TCMAC (except Byzantium VM). Please ensure the correct values are filled out for the league or the match will not be accepted.
Once you've double-checked all the parameters are correct, click the green Create button at the bottom of the form.
Step 5: Post the link to the Challenge
TCMAC admins cannot see the challenges unless the links are shared. If challenges are not accepted and the links are not posted, your team will be awarded a forfeit. So this step is important.
You should see a challenge or 'seek' page like this.
Do not try to accept this challenge as that task is for the admin of the opposing club! Do not cancel it either, unless you have made a mistake in the parameters.
To copy the link the to challenge, select the 'seek' address in your browser's address bar and copy it (ctrl-C). After copying the 'seek' address you can close this tab.
Go back to the league forum page and post the link the challenge along with the name of the match or the names of your team and the team you are challenging. For example like this:
You're done! Next time it will be much easier, but please always check the details of parameters when sending and receiving challenges.
