Cassleberry Chess Club usually hosts a tournament once a month at the Cassleberry Recreation Center. This is usually early in the month and on a Sunday. It's been 15 minute rapid the last few months, January's is a quads tournament being held on Jan 12th, they have a FB page and a Club page here on chess.com where they normally post information, and the tournaments can be registered for on https://www.chessregister.com/events usually $20-30 for registration. The Volusia County Chess Club club in Daytona holds a tournament once a month usually on the third Saturday of the month, at the Sunshine Plaza mall in Port Orange details are posted to their Facebook page it is $40 entry they don't put it up on chess registration websites, but are considering it.  Chess in Schools does the Monthly Chess challenge at Stetson University in DeLand this is normally the Saturday before the Volusia County Chess Club event can be registered for on. https://www.kingregistration.com/ and is $50 There are also others in the area from Jacksonville to Miami most of then have FB pages where they post information, and many can be found on chess registration websites. It would be great to get more people going to these events!
For those interested in rated OTB play for those close enough to Deland where Travel is feasible. With help from the Stetson Chess Club there is a tournament held once a month we plan to continue to hold it at Stetson University so long as the Stetson Chess club is willing to host. G25 D5 5 rounds. Below is the registration links if anyone in the area is interested. We have had a National Master show up in the past and there are some strong players that regularly show up. A great way to test your chess chops in an OTB setting. USCF membership is required as it is USCF rated. Will try and Update the links every month, so long as the Club admins allows. October's tournament is October 19th. November's Tournament is Novemeber 23rd. October: https://www.kingregistration.com/event/10192024 November: https://www.kingregistration.com/event/11232024
Who would like to be an Admin in this group? Please tell us what you can do to help the group. Ideally I would like to see someone represent the following areas; The Panhandle, Jacksonville, Gainesville/Orlando, Tampa Bay area, Miami, SW FL. Please submit your name if you have the desire (and time) to be an Admin. Please state which region you would represent. The position of SA is also open (if anyone wants it) I would gladly step down if someone has the desire and time to properly do the job.

Please sign up for the team matches vs No. Cali and Wales. We are outrated by 300+ pts in the No. Cali and even more vs Wales. WE NEED HELP!!! The matches will be locked on Monday 6/25.
Please join this match. We need 2 players (stronger the better) we are seriously out gunned.
At the end of this game, I was up with a rook, 2 bishops & 2 pawns. My opponent only had a rook and was able to gain a stalemate. This might have been my best win. I know a checkmate was possible but couldn't figure it out. Where did I go wrong? What could I have done differently?
Sorry for the late notice, but I just received notification myself. We need players to join this match.
The Aircraft Engineers team outrates us seriously. 300pts. Their team avg is 1922 ours is 1560, so as you can see we need some help.
There is a new vote chess game starting now versus Aircraft engineers. Please join and have fun.
I am thinking that an intergroup tourney might possibly help us to get to know each other better. If anyone is interested please post here and give your preferred format, time control, etc... Thank you
I'm finally putting together a good match performance for this team in our match against South Dakota ... with a solid lead in both my games. (I've got a lousy record playing for Team Florida so far ) But my computer had gone asleep after my most recent move in one of those games, and I woke it up with a mouse click ... the mouse must have been sitting over the Offer Draw button ... it game me a confirmation dialog, and I was assuming it was confirming a draw offer in a different game that I really had intended to offer. I hit OK. Opponent hasn't responded, but it'll be charity if he doesn't take it. Two wins would have given us a very solid lead. Hope I didn't blow it.

I really do not know what I am doing. I hope that I can get all of our members help. I would like some input as to where you all would like this group to go. About official matches vs unofficial matches I don't know the difference. If you or anybody you know has the skills or time to become an admin or superadmin (and I am not really sure what the difference between those two is) please advance their name. Even if you do not want to be an admin please give any advice that you can. I want this group to reflect the interests of its members as much as possible.
Kyska, will all official matches say something to that effect in their title? Also, can you let us know when the lockdown time is? I'm trying to play less, but want to join official matches, especially if it looks like a close match. Thanks.
Here is the list of players (and their results) who have played in our Team Matches so far. Thank all of you for participating. I hope that others will join the fun. This can be our chess event PSA. Please post any chess related events in your community. This includes Tournaments, Simuls, or whatever. Let us know what's going on in FL.
The pairings for Season 2 of the US CHess League are about to be set. Florida still needs someone to join the US Chess League so they can accept/issue challenges to the other teams. This means that someone needs to be admin here. It isn't a difficult job. Time is of the essence. I would need some feedback by this weekend otherwise Florida won't be able to play. Here is the link to join: http://www.chess.com/groups/home/us-team-chess-league If someone wants to do it but isn't admin at this point let me or kyska know then we can promote you. I wil step down from the group once the season starts.
