Best book on Bobby Fischer I've read: Bobby Fischer's Remarkable Rise and Fall by Frank Brady
Here is a really hard fought come from behind win against team Gothic... http://www.chess.com/votechess/game?id=81232

Check out "Pawn Sacrifice" about Bobby Fischer and his quest for the world championship and his mentsl "illness". I thought it was really good and draws you in. Really doesn't get into the chess moves at all. Tobey Maguire plays Fischer + does a great job.

Here is where I got the name of our chess group - this is the only song I can find now called "The News Comes In" the background is Rochester NY. Guy on the left is the drummer Rich Spencer, cousin to our admin Cthuluhoop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYDUnXBBGBo&list=LLy5pdVVsgWj-AxO2v8B__WQ&index=1

Here is the protocol by which Vote Chess is to played by the The Not Wanteds. There are 3 simple rules to follow: 1. Please discuss moves until the clock hits 24 hours remaining. Please also read all discussion. It is recommended that you Track Comments! for any Vote Chess games you participate in. 2. Once 24 hours or less remains on the clock please vote either for the move decided upon, or if there is a choice of moves, your preference from the chosen moves. 3. Please respect fellow team members if someone suggests an inferior move (we all do now and then), just explain nicely why its not a good idea. We want to win but at the same time we want people to use it as a learning platform. These rules are simple, please follow them. If you can't be bothered following these rules please don't bother signing up for Not Wanteds Vote Chess games. Of course there is nothing wrong with players who sign up for vote chess and not even vote! Observing, reading discussion can be a good way for a learner to improve their game. The Not Wanteds continue to have success at vote chess and at the same time we strive to have a good, friendly team environment even if the discussion heats up we all have the same goal : KICK BUTT!

Finding books that are very good and also easy to learn from are not easy to come by. I'll list a few of my favorite ones and would like to hear additional ones you like yourself. "Weapons of Chess" by Bruce Pandolfini is so easy to read and you can pick up so much information on many aspects of chess. It can help beginners as well as intermediate players. I've read over my copy probably 5 times and always seem to learn or understand something better, as I grow and learn as a player. I know many people look down on his books. I feel you can't beat it for the ease of getting info into your head and into your game with almost no effort on the side of the player. Jeremy Silman - all his books are very well done and everyone can learn new stuff from his books. "Silman's Complete Endgame Course", "The Complete Book of Chess Strategy", "How to Reasses Your Chess", The Amateur's Mind". A beginning book on openings that I like to reference quite often and is very accessible... "Winning Chess Openings" by Bill Robertie "The Ideas Behind the Chess Openings" by Reuben Fine is great for letting you know what the goal of each opening is and what you should be trying to accomplish or stop while playing a certain opening. "Winning Chess Tactics" by Yasser Seirawin I also like for the easy gain of knowledge. "Sharpen Your Tactics" by Anatoly Lein, and Boris Archangelsky. Is a good tactics puzzle book. "Pawn Structure Chess" by Andrew Soltis. Lots of great "boring" but important knowledge here that could really raise your rating. "The Giants of Strategy" by Neil McDonald (Chess Secrets Series) "Art of The Attack in Chess" by Vladimir Vukovic. This one takes work but is well worth it. "My System" by Aron Nimzowitsch. I think there's a newer version or updated version to this but this has a bunch of stuff in it you need to know. Bobby Fischer My 60 Memorable Games" Here's the start of my list...

Here is the policy for "The Not Wanted's": If you sign up for a TM (team match) you are expected to carry through with your best effort, and not timeout (lose by letting the clock run out on you). If the player has to let their game(s) timeout, and that player has a reason - then message me ASAP (as soon as possible). If the Admins or I don't receive a reason, you will get a warning the first time it happens. The next timeout will result in a 30 day ban. If the player re-joins after that 30 day ban, then the player is considered to be on a "second chance" and the next timeout will get that player banned (one and done). After the 30 day ban, the player can request to re-join the group, and will be let back in. This policy is to assure our teamates that we are serious about playing our best game when we sign up to play a TM for the Not Wanted's.

Groups that do not set up their teams fairly in Team Matches. When we run across a team that locks and unlocks its line-up to make sure they have a much stronger line-up than we do - we will list them here so our group can see who we have had problems with. Stacking a line-up after the other team has locked its roster is really just cheating to get the team match win. Huge groups can easily do this to a group our size, and many seem to do this. If a team evens up their roster, that is fair and expected (we recruit to fill a match and try to make it even).

We (as a team) have had very good success in vote chess. We each try to bring up moves and why we think they would be good. The player making the suggestion can make a diagram, so others can follow what they are getting at. (If you do not know how to make diagrams then Hopsta, sartresghost, or I (Lunarfoxx) can show you how). The other team members job is to look through the suggestions and try to find (mistakes, misreads, blunders, overlooks, better moves... etc) and explain why they are viewed by that person as a bad move or a good move. Nothing in this process should be taken personally or should be written as to make a member feel dumb or disrespected, it should be viewed as a learning experience for all involved. We play 3 days per move, so we can all participate in the discussion and learning. When we have a consensus on what move is best, then we will vote, so that we do not have a blunder quickly voted in and wrecking our game. Hopsta is our "goto player" in these matches that he is involved in (which are pretty much all of them) he is very patient and has a lot of knowledge that he willingly dispenses, and is very open to other ideas that are shown to work via diagram or have a decent chance of working. Please follow this format for our play in these matches and we will all learn much, and become better players and closer friends through this process. If you as a team member notice nothing has been discussed, and we are at 36 hours or less - please post to our home page wall that we need discussion and a plan to examine very quickly. You can also send myself or Hopsta a message with the link to the game to let us know it needs attention. Any disrespect shown to any member's involvement in this process, will get the offending member a warning, and then a ban from our group. We want the free flow of ideas, and (of course) do your best to work through your idea first, and find flaws with it - that helps everyone out with a minimal amount of time spent looking through a ton of moves. Last thing... of course, no chess engines are allowed. I want to see your own ideas expressed and explained or ideas you have seen elsewhere - and also explained, not something spit out by an engine!

Here's what we have so far with plenty of open matches yet to be finished. We're keeping it simple with 1 point for a match win and 0.5 per draw. We're open to scoring suggestions to keep it fun. We also know a lot of you are ranked too damned high to qualify for many of the challenges and are busy contending in your other groups, but we obviously thank you for sticking with us. Please post your requests for any team you would like to play, any theme, gambit, rating range, tournament ideas... We will make it happen, I want everyone to have the matches they want to play in and be excited to gain group points along with chess.com points!
OK TNW's I would like to get a tournament or two going within our group. I'm thinking a regular chess one with two ratings groups (under 1500 + over 1500). Probably keep it to like 10 players in each tournament. We could do another similar idea with 960... Any additional ideas or recommendations?

I can only imagine that there are a variety of musical tastes and preferences within our diversified group.... Finding that "new to you" group in your favorite genre is worth more than gold. Start a Forum topic with a style of music that you love and tell us your favorite bands (popular and not so popular) from your speciality. I expect nobody to be put down for their taste in anything in this group from music to politics to religion and everything in between. Everyone has an opininion and someone (or maybe many someone's) will appreciate your views and suggestions. If you are one who does not, then you can start your own productive thread about your own specialty, and let us all gain knowledge from people with like minds and tastes...
