A club for the committee, sure. There we could decide stuff like who to nominate without others hearing the discussion.
How is the Bulldog World Champion decided?
Exactly! This IS the bulldog chess "players" club after all. Can you make it and then send us some invites?
We could also do something, like
1 Highest rated
1 Highest rated among those that have never played a candidate or challenge game
Or as an alternate to that second one:
1 Highest rated among those that have not played a candidate or challenge game within the last 4 championship cycles.
2 unseeded "wild cards" are fine with me.
I like the alternative.
After some thought, I think I’ll apply to be in The Committee. I wasn’t sure if I knew the rules well or had the time, but I think I’ll give it a shot and drop out if I can’t.
Also, where does the Bulldog Tournament fit into all of this? Does it not really matter, or does the winner have the right to challenge Martin0? Assuming Martin0 himself does not win the tournament.
The current Super-dog tournament is independent of deciding the World Champion. It's just a fun tournament, and a way to help get games going between the stronger players. (and wins against strong players improve ELO scores more than winning against amateurs).![]()
When the winner of tomato/tugwash game is challenging me, then we need to have decided if we want a 4-way tournament or just a new candidate game. We also need to have decided what is necessary to qualify for the candidates. I'm not convinced that only going by rating is the best thing.
Either way, I don't think we have any way to say that it should be a Fly-Eagles-Fly - Waredude game. When the game between tomato - tugwash is finished, the ratings will look different.
I haven't even seen HorribleTomato on this thread yet. Do we know if he agrees to a Tomato/Tugwash game?
Tomato: Are you around?
And why is Waredude using Tomato's old profile pic? (fine with me, but it confused me for a while).![]()
If anyone protests, leave a comment. If both @captaintugwash and @HorribleTomato are ready to play let me know here, and I'll start the thread.
Not sure if HorribleTomato have seen this, but he did make a post early in this forum. And we can decide the finer details for the next candidates while this game is in progress.

I would like to volunteer. Anything I can do to help would be great. I just feel like this is kinda the only work I can get here since I can't moderate ya know. Plus it sounds kinda fun
Ok, here are the founding members of the Bulldog Chess Federation:
Martin0
Fly-Eagles-Fly
aidanB1
vickalan
Waredude
Junebug444
This is a good committee where all members have already shown skill and have enthusiasm in promoting chess-type games which are still free from engine analysis (one of the main points of bulldog).
I'll consider the request to join "closed", but if there is anyone with an interest, and have been a reliable player (no history of ghosting anyone in a game) please send me a DM.![]()

I'll send a message to Tomato to see if he wants to play. I'll reply on this thread when I find out.![]()
Why did i change? It is a looong story.
ht changed after i told everyone i was keeping it so i get to keep it. Btw
As an idea, how about having a candidate game which is played in parallell with the championship game? The winner of the candidate game gets to challenge the champion. One of the players in the candidates game can be the highest rated player (excluding those in the championship game). The second player could be chosen by the committee or something. One added requirement could be that the nominated player must be in the top 10.
Right now that would mean horribleTomato could be a candidate by rating and I would like to nominate captaintugwash as the second player for being undefeated with his 3-0 score, which includes a win against JohnHS, a previous contender.
Well, that is an idea at least.
My rating???
I've been here.
I'm ready.

captaintugwash and HorribleTomato have both agreed to play in a candidate game. The winner of this game will then be eligible to challenge Martin0 for the bulldog crown. I'll check each player's game history to see who takes White. I'll tentativelly plan to start a thread for the game on Monday April 30.
Reply here if any comments.![]()
The Federation currently has six members, but unfortunately new members aren't being admitted. The team will take care of some tasks, like formalizing the overall rules for bulldog games, and setting up championship matches.
If anyone becomes inactive or retires then others may be admitted in the future. Experience in play will probably be one criteria for new members.
Btw, I'm having fun watching your game with Waredude.![]()
Something similar will happen. There will be a 4-player tournament. We are deciding who the candidates will be in the federation right now. Just wait a few days and then we will know who the candidates are.
So there are new rules for the WC. Excellent. I only just found these.
By the way, here's an idea for a WC system. A tournament is set up. Anyone who wants a crack at the title and is in the top 20 (or 25, whichever gets closer to a 16 [or 8] player tournament) has a week to join. The winner of this tournament challenges the WC, and once that challenge game is over, a new tournament begins. This keeps a regular cycle going, and also means there's always something going on in this community.
Also, a challenger who lost the Championship game would have to wait a cycle before joining the Challenger's Tournament. (Perhaps the same should go for a WC who lost his title).
I submit the Challenger's Tournament for the consideration of the federation.
Thoughts, anyone?
Anyone lese think we should have a club for this stuff?
