Openings?

As black, try Pirc/ Kings Indian against literally anything. As white, try the Italian Game.

tbh at your level you dont need to play such solid stuff, Try a few gambits like danish gambit, Ponziani and caro kann or scandinavian, etc. I feel like pirc is an opening you should play only after 1200

ponziani is great for traps, apparently they don't help u improve tho (traps I mean)

because of this I am learning Italian and using Ponziani for blitz games

Key differences between an opening and a delayed version of it?

To my understanding when an opening has a delayed version it's because of the flexibility against popular responses, also because as the move is non committal it allows you to change your original opening plan. Most of the times the two openings transpose anyway.

For example the delayed alapin is characterized by the move 2. Nf3. Am i missing more details on their differences? Why does one choose one version over the other?

I want to suggest and advertisement forum so that every advert goes there instead of the notes or other forums. Way of containing adverts and spam without just deletion.

Maybe there could be added a thread about the Sunday tournaments? About achievments, loses etc.

Put this in notes, not here.

Hello every buddy. Not sure if this is the right place for this or not. I was looking at the achievements and noticed a drill one. What are drills? How do I find these to practice?

Thanks in advance.

click on the 'learn' tab, then select 'practice' and then you have drills. They are good to practice checkmates and endgames, along with other common tactics and techniques

And if you want all 3 achievements, you need to do all of the master games and openings too.

Could we created a forum called: "On the Board; Off the Board" which would be a place to discuss how life off the board can help or hinder chess and how life on the board can help or hinder the quality of life one would like for oneself(?).

@Wind,

I always forget how many school-age participants are here, and I think we should make the writing a little more informal. Open to your edit, but maybe:

"A place talk about how life off the board (examples include family, work, school, health, etc.) helps or hinders your chess, and, also, a place to talk about how chess can help or hinder your quality of life, self-care and wellbeing. Basically, a place to talk about chess and life. "

clearer?

I think it would be a good idea to make a forum called ‘The Opening Library’ where we can share information about different openings people need help on and would be a place to share games based on those openings instead of putting them in other forums. Also, maybe every week there would be a new opening to get information from ( for example next week may be the Sicilian but the one after that would be the Ruy Lopez). This would be like the Rapid Roulette that happens every month. For me this would be crucial (or to developing players) as they wouldn’t have to undergo coaching sessions which would likely cost a lot of money and can get the things they need right from the communitygrin

Could be a cool idea to have a puzzle series named "Guessworks" or something, where there are a dozen checkmates, but only one of them is correct. Least attempts wins?

This is a good idea. Openings are discussed a lot, but they don't have their own topic.

100% there's a lot of underrated/unexplored opening theory that's surpirsingly viable

To be honest, I feel like this club is a bit scrambled up with all types of openings in all forums so we kind of need to ‘clean it up’. Also, as you said, some openings are very underrated and not many people pay attention to them. So with this forum more people will know about them.
