I would like to but don't fully get the witch
Micro Dog Tournament #4
I tried explaining the rules for the witch as good as I can here:
https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/witch-explained
What part do you not fully understand?
The witch can not capture pieces.
The witch can move like a queen or knight.
The witch can jump 2 squares horizontal, vertical or diagonal.
The witch is transparent to allied pieces.
Being transparent means that other pieces can move, attack, and capture right through the piece.
Any piece (friend or foe) adjacent to the witch will be transparent to pieces allied with the witch. However, these pieces will not be transparent for the witch.
You can also ask evert for more questions, since he made the witch.
Why has this become a pinned topic? There is already a pinned topic with a list of all Bulldog tournaments.
This is a small tournament for new and lower rated players. If it turns popular I will start more tournaments similar to this.
Rules:
Players with a bulldog chess rating below 1300 may enter. Unrated players may also enter, but not players with 100% timeout ratio. Players that joined the Micro Dog #1, #2 or #3 tournament may not enter before 23rd June (Must give others a chance to join first).
Just say "join" to enter. First 4 players to join gets to participate.
The games will be bulldog chess with witch and guard. Rules for this variant can be found here. A more detailed explanation of the witch can be found here.
Games will be rated and follow the correspondence rules posted here.
This is a single elimination tournament, where the winners in round 1 will play in the finals. The losers in round 1 will play for 3rd place.
If a player loses by timeout in the first round, then a third place match will not be held and the player losing by timeout gets 4th place.
If a game ends in a draw, then the players will play a new game with reverse colors.
After pairings have been posted a player will have 14 days to show up. Failing to show up within those 14 days may result in the game being lost by forfeit (however, the player should also receive a warning at least three days prior to the player losing by forfeit).
The pairings for the first round will be randomized.
Colors will be picked mainly for even color distribution (aiming for players to have equally many white and black games).
The tournament will start after 4 players have registered.
Good luck to all participants!
