Training Problems
Steinitz vs. Von Bardeleben, 1895
Steinitz' opponent ragequitted halfway through this sequence which makes it even more iconic
Question for those who have posted positions that have the footer allowing a hint, solution, analysis etc...If I have some tactics positions to post how can I do that in this format?
@southernrun You have to choose the "insert chess game or diagram" icon here, paste the position (FEN) you want to make a puzzle of, or the PGN that starts with it, then click on the back arrow, go to "theme" and check the box that says "puzzle".
Tactic 951 from 1001 Brilliant Ways to Checkmate: 21st-Century Edition.
Hint: Checkmate in 2 moves. First move is not a check or capture.

That's a good one. I found a dozen M3's but the M2 is really subtle.
The last chapter in the above mentioned course has around 70 of those insanely difficult checkmates in 2.
Here's another cool one (Tactic 961):

Found this in the forums, one of the wackiest puzzles I’ve ever seen.
Tactic 149 from 1001 Winning Chess Sacrifices and Combinations: 21st-Century Edition.
Currently reading an old book from the 1980s and there was quite an interesting opening noted here (not played but intentionally avoided by the author) whose name changes so many times in the opening but becomes the Ruy Lopez Opening: Berlin, Improved Steintiz, Hedgehog, Tarrasch Trap.
I think this might make a nice little opening calculation test, hint there are two critical lines.
Since @vtom has been posting Mate in X puzzles, I thought I'd include a nice one from a game I played against my dad. Black to move and find the only Mate in 3.

Tactic 328 from 1001 Winning Chess Sacrifices and Combinations: 21st-Century Edition.
Tactic 328 from 1001 Winning Chess Sacrifices and Combinations: 21st-Century Edition.
very nice. how do you like that book/chessable course?
It's a bit easier than 1001 Chess Exercises For Club Players. It's a good course for intermediate players.
