Did anyone feel the euphoria I had that local leagues were expanding(Bradford and Calderdale) in the past few seasons?
I especially appreciated that Central were creating a popular new venue in Bradford and Todmorden were introducing International competition.

Wednesday M62, water,water everywhere, signs flashing 50, lorrys flying past at 70 mph( did they think 50 had something to do with JFK?).
Things haven't been good lately but when I got Ronnie's email thought my presence would help the team.
I have a decent record against Mitchell and with black, just play for the draw. Oh no! My Nemesis- David!
Play fast, offer a draw at time control, hope the nutters are off the motorway. Didn't make time control David offered the draw on move 23.
I had thought of saccing my queen on move five, but I would still be in Lindley.
When I saw how well the rest of the team had done, maybe 5.....Nxd5 would have been worth a try!!??

Monday fourth home match against HB A, so white!! Record so far 2 wins 1 loss. Heard Mathew retired(my back pages??), so who will I play?
I arrive late(traffic lights) Bruce and Paul have set up, with assistance? Dave and Andy are there from Hebden(thinks I'm playing one of you!). More turn up(Joshua and Nick for HB), they are waiting for Andy. Suss out they mean AndBak, thinks Robert can handle him, draw blood on 2. Bruce announces team......one, crazy.
Andy knows what I play!! Made a mess of the opening, Reversed Gruenfield, Neo, Psuedo.... no aggression!

Ten minute game today. last pawn came off move 63. I had a bishop and three minutes, my opponent a knight and eighteen seconds so I played on. Strangely when my opponent's time ran out, the machine decided the game drawn- will it do the same for knight v rook pawn?

Brighouse needed a draw away at Belgrave while Belgrave needed the win. Dennis was first to finish and got a half point for Brighouse. I was playing Les Johnson on board 5 and my position was poor. Nick looked like he might get a win. Robert lost on board 2 so we needed a win and two draws or 2 wins. Next thing the scorecard landed on the table - three draws and a defeat - I needed to win! Fortunately I'd found a resource and had 2 passers on the a and b files - I managed to avoid blundering anything away and got to a won rook v bishop endgame with a passer about to queen. So on move 53 I secured the full point and Brighouse survive. Commiserations to Belgrave.

Wednesday night S/F Huddersfield Team KO. Could only afford one loss and one draw because of handicap. I played the opening terribly, didn't want to put pressure on the team by losing early. Last to finish, still lost but David said he enjoyed the game very much, so did I if not the result!!

Against Todmorden B away, as we sat down Alastair said it's always cold here, couldn't argue, has Russia moved.
Alastair offered a draw had a look round, thought we were doing well so accepted, decided to stay till the end of the match.
With my bad heart should have known better- 1/2-1/2, 1/2-1 1/2, 1 1/2-1 1/2, 1 1/2- 2 1/2. Can Robert draw? Pawn on the seventh, mate threats! Of course he can! 2-3. Our future in our hands! My game, sleep well.

When I left it was 4-3, thought Paul stood better!!!? My game, started like a scared rabbit,Talking to Nick at the bar, I mentioned I thought I had the better game but lately my opponents have been in time trouble and I have made a mess of the game!
"Just forget the clock". So I did. Played a few more moves won a piece. Suddenly Dave said "that's forty-two!"

It would seem since Ihor's politicing in favour of ECF membership, his site has exploded into whitewash.
Not being good with brightness or contrast, my opinions are restricted. "You can't answer what you can't see!"
So what do I see.
Ihor(the Statesman) wants top divisions to bring in ECF membership all over Yorkshire evening leagues.
Not improbable, Saturday chess, he's halfway there!
What do the ECF run in Yorkshire? NOWT!
Are players now looking round for Leagues that won't try to press gang them?
For local chess the main problem is maintaining venues, not whether players can represent Yorkshire at under 160 etc!
If things cannot be discussed on Ihor's site, a whisper here may be useful??!!

Had a brief look at the new YCA site, the glare and the green have gone, but didn't see anything new in the forums.
I do get the feeling, that as a chess player it is time to resign.
A link to ECF forum the main opponent of the ECF removed, so where are we heading? A fate accompli!!!
Time I packed in playing again. Chess in this country is doomed!!

Watkinson Wednesday, Knights beat last years champions to make a two horse race. So Calderdale need a win to force a play off( I expected a NW1 win and the chance of a three way play off. Come 13/3 we'll know.
The worry, it seems Netherton will only have 2 teams next season, is this the time to discuss replacements?

Finished an on line game the other day(3 day). Arrived at this position.
I now played Rg4 allowing Bxb4 giving up his bishop for Black's pawns. I managed to win in the end, but it's a long time since I read Ruben's fine book on endgames and ask myself "would I have won over the board?" "Would you!?"
