Bill Lumley, I'm back in the team. Dave told me David Brown's a man down(Terrriers at home?). I volunteered to step down. Arrived at Honley, everybody volunteered, Dave used his power as captain, rested his own nerves. So with the handicap, to win the match we needed five points, I played the opening badly and began to worry I would leave the team no leeway. Reached this position (or near?!) I don't think e5 is sound, but it probably buys time!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SckmZTOKBPg Calderdale lose by half a point again! Couldn't happen anywhere else. I wasn't there so no games??! http://www.chessnuts.org.uk/ny5/fixtures.php?sectionid=1035
The past two matches against Todmorden A's Lancastrians have been massacres. So we got a coach with an old approach. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY4tD2Hbg_A He worked for me, my game;
Last night's game. Sacked a pawn, sure I was winning, but I'm getting too old for all this pressure.
Watkinson last night, after the game three voted for swindle, one for technique. Looking for three more players! I went to see how Nick was doing, when I returned, Dave had stood up, I looked at the board, no move. Dave offered a draw, I grabbed his hand so quickly, his wrist may be broke. Perhaps those three were right.
I have been trying to post a comment on Ihor's site and am sick of going round in circles so here is my comment. Most Yorkshire players are happy with just a chessnuts grade. Those who want an ECF grade shoiuld join ECF direct submit their own results and let the YCA save whatever monies they pay to the ECF. I suggest this is done immediately. The ECF would then get a better idea of the effects of democracy.
Volunteers required, Calderdale v NW3 9/1/13 Cliffe Hall, Back from York? Back to team chess?
Evening all. Made a post of very few words on the YCA site http://yorkshirechess.org/forums/topic/evening-all Since then, on that forum I have been accused of irrelevance and other things(though not sure what, somebody told me illegal fishing- think the're wrong.) My original point was to point out that I could not post a report on the Calderdale v Wakefield match, as hard as I tried. I pointed my arrow everywhere, the nearest I came was Bradford League. On the assumption the fault was mine, I posted(what I thought was a humorous enquiry) Evening all. Suddenly my sanity is thrown into question! An attack from Matty is followed by an adverse comment from one of his team mates. Since then comments have been posted on that subject without question to their relevance, so I ask myself; "Non compos mentis?" "Not guilty!" "Persona non grata?" "Shit, ask me the other one again!"
See you Jimmy! eh! Well it looks like the top four in the Watkinson are sorted, though if NW2 are dislodged, I'll move to Cricklewood. It looks like two home fixtures for Calderdale and one away in the Scottish Premiership format, but what dates. Looking at availability of players I think we want to be lying second after seven matches.
I have heard that current joint second division leaders in the BDCA, will be short of players on the run up to Christmas. Any one available on 13th Nov at Polish Club v current 5th 27th Nov v third at Wibsey Con Club 4th December at Idle WMC against joint top. Any volunteers will get to see my latest(abysmal) loss,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDNtqy0zjJA After last night's result, it looks more and more likely we will be playing a lot in Todmorden next season! Can't afford a holiday home, so where can I pitch my tent? My game, not as good as last season;
Must be more careful, even on the dark side of the moon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEEfJGp6VLw Carry on like this I won't be board one for long. Counting on Robert to draw a match I should have sealed for us, well at least a point. The nightmare;
Just to put you in the mood. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaU9MTzbfwo A call for players! Firstly us poor saps to play in the Examiner on the seventh of November, a second chance to get burnt in one week. I will be the biggest handicap, so if any Calderdale players are playing above last year's grade; please volunteer! The match is in the far east; Brighouse. On the fourteenth we play a scratch game in the Watkinson against current league leaders,. We have one class player at the moment. This match is also at Cliffe Hall. Come on Calderdale! Your Country needs you!
Seems I must be captain. Nick asked me heads or tails before trying to mame an opponent with a ten bob piece. Not a bad start, draw against last year's champions, my game.
I tried to make a posting on Ihor's site, short of oxygen, I changed my mind so here it is! Caught the 268 from Dewsbury today. A young lad sat a couple of seats in front of me. Three stops later an old man got on the bus, sat next to the young lad and said "Where are you from?" "Just outside Islamabad." "I came from Islamabad in 1947." The young lad shuffled but was trapped! "How old are you ?" "Seventeen." "I was fourteen, but have learnt many things in this country!" "Yes?" "Yes, I can drive a car, operate a loom, give blood and type on a computer, what can you do?" "I've only been here ten months!" "And what have you learnt?" "Polish." "Pity, I had a roofing job lined up."
There is a posting on the YCA site regarding giant killing. http://yorkshirechess.org/forums/topic/giantkillings/ I mentioned Calderdale's fine achievement (after losing 4 players?). I didn't mention Dave's great Tal-esque victory, because sometimes words ........but sometime I'll pinch it from him. How much of the team spirit was down to this game? Back to the point, Calderdale have now used ten players in the Watkinson, travelling is involved, so there is a balance between players' strength and availabilty(cars). Not just for the Watkinson, the Examiner(h/c) & the Bill Lumley(h/c) too. So the question I ask myself " If many players want to get involved on Wednesday, will we need more teams next year?" This then seems to lead to the question if Calderdale invade Kirklees, will Kirklees invade Calderdale?(Monday) Can Yorkshire little leagues(ie mid-week) organise fixtures to give the rich(ie those with transport) the opportunity to play all over(eg Leeds have League games when Huddersfield have handicaps. I think there's a lot more to be said on this subject, hope I'm not the only voice.
Another Budapest miniature, I played today.
