Offering a premium membership is a feeling that makes you feel good. People must think that on chess.com, a premium member ship is something that cost a huge money in some countries and is nothing for other people in rich countries.

Very good point !

Which is why I really dislike those threads which appear to promise the chance of one.

They don't !

Interesting. I never knew this. Anyway. I have never needed a thread since my appearance in 2009, on Chess.com to give away free memberships. I do have one unspoken rule.. Which will now... Be a spoken one by technicality: I never gifted anyone who asked. I chose who to give them to by what I felt that their presence made a positive contribution to Chess.com or my pet team... [That teams name shall remain unpublished] For the sake of not advertising.

Advertising, isn't defined as saying a teams name. Its either where you post a link to the club or just say please join my club.

But yes, it feels good to give memberships!

I did exactly the same, I didn't need a thread to offer to some persons after having played a game just because he was friendly and something was special in that game.

If I offered to that person that gift, because I read his profile and it seems its a child that is passionate in chess and India is certainly one of this countries where a chess membership is not in the priority list of his parents to afford what their family needs.

Most of my gifts have gone to players in the Philippines, Indonesia and India. There is a lot of young talent hiding in these areas. I would love to see more champions rise in  the near future.

their is no need to have a thread for offeing  a gift but finnaly, its a good thing to remember to a lot of griddy person that there is a button called offering a gift.

It's a scAm. There are multiple reports of hacked accounts caused by 'free' members, wins, etc. Don't be gullible/stupid enough to believe that is real.

What will be the biggest difference for you, Blue Emu?  I mean what premium features will you find the most valuable?

lol

There are some big gifter / bribers, they patch you up and then expect you to run their club while they constantly mess up the main page and things like that xD

One (without asking or discussion) gave me 3 months worth of diamond at the start of this year, but the inteferring they did made the club very gaudy and unpalatable. I felt much better when I eventually paid for the membership myself.

When you're a great player, I hope it's not just because they want something from you, but I choose to ever live in hope that these truly generous things can happen!

Emu has done heaps of great posts though, and is generous with time helping noobies learn, so it could definitely be an altruist act : )

I don't really play chess anymore, so the "no ads" aspect will have the most impact for me.

@stevehinkle10 bought me a diamond membership... just wanted to thank him.

Blueemu has such an adorable face, and yup, free hair too, so the generous gifter probably couldn't resist.

A premium account on this site is useless anyway.

It’s useful if you want unlimited tactics, puzzle rush, lessons, and videos.
